Transcript
00:00You don't want that when someone is that beautiful.
00:02You've got to think there's something, there's got to be something that's not perfect about you.
00:05And he was just, he was a class act.
00:08The stars of Queen Charlotte are spilling all the royalty on Bridgerton's buzzy new prequel series.
00:14The spinoff follows Queen Charlotte's rise to prominence and power,
00:18and the story of how the young queen's marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift,
00:25creating the world of the ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton.
00:28For Queen Charlotte herself, Golda Rochevelle, it was important to pass the baton in the prequel series
00:34to the character's younger counterpart, played by India Amartifio.
00:38How was it watching her in this role, and were there parts of this character that you worked on together?
00:42Charlotte's very much a woman who stands in her own space, in her own womanhood.
00:49And I think to impose anything on India would have been disrespectful to the character,
00:56but I'd pass her on with the grace and generosity that, yeah, I could.
01:02And she went with it. It was fabulous.
01:05As for the young queen, Amartifio opened up about entering such a massive franchise,
01:10and what viewers can expect from the monarch in her earlier years.
01:13We see Charlotte as, you know, so kind of knowing and is the mother, basically, of this whole society in Bridgerton.
01:22She's got her, you know, stuff together.
01:25But we know that she's not hiding, but almost hiding this part of her,
01:29impressing this love for this man who she can't, is not tangible to her anymore.
01:34Newcomer Arceema Thomas also counts herself among the Bridgerton fan club,
01:38and opened up about booking the coveted role of young Lady Danbury as her on-screen debut.
01:43Well, I heard you booked this while still in school.
01:47Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:48I was starting my second year of my Master's of Fine Arts program.
01:53Oh my gosh.
01:53So how much does booking this role and being a part of this franchise mean to you?
01:58Gosh, it initially was just a job,
02:02and now it actually has taken on a very valuable part of my life, I think,
02:09because this show just is so revealing of the experience of Black women,
02:16and as a Black woman, I find it just highly relatable.
02:21And so you can't help but bring it into your personal life.
02:25The spinoff also puts some familiar characters to the forefront
02:28and introduces some new ones as well that play an important part to the story.
02:32And I'm excited for fans to see the sparks fly between you guys.
02:36What are you excited for fans to take away from this relationship?
02:40It's also massively important that people feel represented by what they see on this screen.
02:44Yeah, absolutely.
02:44The whole thing has been a completely amazing experience.
02:46I think probably our favorite scene was the scene in...
02:51I'm doing... Can I do this one?
02:52Episode 4.
02:53Episode 4. Yeah, yeah.
02:54The scene in Episode 4 when we're preparing dinner for George and Charlotte,
02:58and we're bickering and talking about his...
03:00Bits.
03:01Yeah.
03:01But that was weirdly the first scene.
03:05That was my first ever scene that I'd found.
03:07Yeah.
03:07And that was our first scene.
03:08First scene together.
03:09And it was just...
03:10It was just popping up.
03:11Yeah.
03:11It was amazing.
03:12So we peaked on day one, basically.
03:14And then it was just all downhill from there.
03:15It was all downhill from there.
03:16The cast also shared the advice they received from the original cast
03:20and working with their characters' present-day counterparts,
03:23like Rochevel as Queen Charlotte,
03:25Hugh Saxe as Brimsley,
03:26and Adjua Ando as Lady Danbury.
03:28God, I gave you some good advice.
03:30Did she?
03:30Yeah.
03:31She did.
03:34She basically just came over.
03:36Make it your own.
03:36She did.
03:37She said, make it my own,
03:38which is really kind of her.
03:39There was two things.
03:40We talked about the physicality of the character,
03:43and one of the things I'd really seen within him watching it,
03:47because there's a lot that goes unspoken with this character,
03:49and the physicality is such a huge part of their day-to-day
03:52and how they hold themselves,
03:53and how they have to hold themselves.
03:54We definitely chatted.
03:56I was initially just a massive fan,
03:59so I was like, I just want to talk to you forever about your own personal life.
04:02But then we just talked about the stuff that wasn't on the script, you know?
04:04Like, what did Agatha do when she was 13?
04:08Has she ever kept a secret?
04:10Does she like carrots or broccoli?
04:13Corey Milcreast, who plays the young King George,
04:15also discussed running into Bridgerton breakout Regé-Jean Page
04:19and the advice given to him by an unlikely source?
04:22Regé and I are running different races.
04:26He is maybe the most...
04:28I met him at a party full of incredibly beautiful and famous people,
04:35and he was noticeably beautiful.
04:37You don't want that when someone is that beautiful.
04:39You've got to think there's something...
04:41There's got to be something that's not perfect about you,
04:42and he was just...
04:43He was class act.
04:45He said to me, I'm going to give you the same advice
04:47that Jamie Foxx gave to me yesterday.
04:50Wow.
04:51And he said, if there's anything outside of the stuff
04:54that is useful for what will propel you
04:58between action and cut, then it doesn't exist.
05:02And everything that is useful for that, take it on board.
