Carol Channing, the indomitable personality who electrified Broadway audiences with her energetic performances in the original musical comedies 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' and 'Hello, Dolly!,' has died. She was 97.

00:05Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Hello Dolly and Thoroughly Modern Millie, has died.
00:10The three-time Tony Award winner and Oscar nominee passed away on Tuesday of natural causes at her home in Rancho Mirage, California.
00:18She was 97 years old.
00:20Channing's publicist broke the news in a statement on Facebook, writing,
00:23It is with extreme heartache that I have to announce the passing of an original industry pioneer, legend, and icon, Miss Carol Channing.
00:31I admired her before I met her and have loved her since the day she stepped, or fell rather, into my life.
00:37Channing also won a Golden Globe for playing the eccentric widow Muzzy Van Hosmer in Thoroughly Modern Millie,
00:42along with an Emmy Award for the 1966 special An Evening with Carol Channing.
00:47And in 1995, she received a Tony for Lifetime Achievement.
00:51Upon accepting the award, she said,
00:53For my lifetime, I can't think of anything more soul-fulfilling than I could have done.
00:58It was the only thing to do.
00:59Achievement, apparently, is doing exactly what you want.
