00:00I know you've been very outspoken about your music and your journey and kind of being
00:05pigeonholed in R&B. So you are venturing into the pop girl era. What does tonight mean to you
00:13to know that here at BET we honor everyone? Yes, it means everything to me knowing that
00:19we are celebrating music of all types, all genres, and we're not putting ourselves in a box as a
00:24community. And you know, for me, I love dibbling and dabbling in pop, alternative, R&B. I still do
00:30that, but it's just nice knowing that we don't have to be suppressed and contained into something
00:35that society wants us to be, you know? And I know you are your sister's keeper, so can we expect you
00:42guys to be collaborating on any new music anytime soon? Absolutely. There's a song on my upcoming
00:47album Trouble in Paradise called Want Me that features her actually, so I'm really excited
00:51about that one. She kills it. I love that. And as far as your new album, so are we entering
00:56into a new era? What can you tease about it? I feel so. Every body of work for me is like
01:02a new era, represents a new time for me. And it's just more fun, lighthearted, feels tropical.
01:07I've fallen in love with the Caribbean. I wrote and finished the album in St. Lucia. So you
01:12definitely hear the tropical vibes through there and how our emotions reflect through the weather.
01:16And I know you've been very open about loving the Caribbean because it's helped like your
01:20mental health. Why is mental health so part in our community? It's so important because
01:25at the end of the day, it's just us looking at ourselves alone in the mirror. So we have
01:30to feel fulfilled in every way other other than things like this where we receive outer
01:35validation and it only like validates us temporarily. So it's good to find things outside of this.
01:44And any advice that you can give to like a woman in her 20s or of any age really as it pertains
01:50to navigating career like you and mental health and still maintaining our relationships that
01:54we have with people in our lives. Balance is key. Yes, have a great, amazing career and
02:00be the strong, fearless, independent woman you are. But also make sure you're happy as
02:04well with your personal life. We can have both. We don't have to suffer and suffer in silence
02:10just to be this image that people want us to be. Absolutely. And you've been very confident
02:15with showing your image. So what does they not like us mean to you? They not like us. They
02:20don't have the confidence like us. Like me. You know? That's what it feels. And now a fellow
02:22R&B singer, I'm going to be honored tonight. So what's that mean to you? It means so much to me. I cannot
02:29wait to see his tribute. Bye Chloe!
