Jimmy Kimmel opened Monday night’s 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' with the very emotional story about his newborn child's open-heart surgery. Fortunately, all went well.

00:00I have a story to tell about something that happened to our family last week.
00:03I'm sorry, you know, I try not to get emotional.
00:07Jimmy Kimmel and his wife welcomed their second child together, William Billy Kimmel,
00:11but at just three days old, the littlest Kimmel had to undergo open-heart surgery
00:15at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
00:17Kimmel opened Monday night's Jimmy Kimmel Live with the very emotional story
00:21that fortunately ended well, with newborn Billy now home with his parents and older sister Jane.
00:27Kimmel, in tears, revealed the details of his new son's heart complications
00:30and applauded the L.A. Children's Hospital nurses, staff, and doctors
00:34that ultimately helped save his son's life.
00:37He also showed the progress of the newborn, revealing a photo from his first day
00:41to a smiling shot of him safe at home Sunday.
00:44Not only did he get a bad heart, he got my face.
00:47Kimmel continued, thanking all involved who really stepped up, including his friends and family.
00:52He also referenced President Donald Trump's proposed $6 billion cut in funding
00:56to the National Institute of Health.
00:58Explaining how his son was born with a congenital heart disease or pre-existing condition,
01:02the host expressed that partisans from both sides should come together
01:06in providing everyone with access to health insurance.
01:09If your baby is going to die and it doesn't have to,
01:12it should not matter how much money you make.
01:14Said a teary Kimmel, we're glad everything is now okay for Kimmel and his family.
01:19Without any fanfare, the host quietly went to repeats last week
01:22when his son was still in the hospital.
01:23He will go out on paternity leave for the remainder of this week.
01:26In his absence, Kimmel's friends have lined up to guest host Jimmy Kimmel Live.
01:30Will Arnett is set for Tuesday with a special appearance from his gong show host,
01:34Tommy Maitland, believed by many to be Mike Myers.
01:37Anthony Anderson is on board for Wednesday,
01:40while Kristen Bell and David Spade will take over on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
01:44The guest list for the week includes Maya Rudolph, Charlie Hunnam, Adam Scott, and Guy Ritchie.
