00:00That is why I'm proud to introduce my running mate today,
00:03Infinity Jackson!
00:06She already has an 80% approval rating.
00:08If you binged The Politician on Netflix,
00:10you know that Ben Platt stars as Peyton Hobart.
00:13A privileged teenager determined to win
00:14the student body elections at his high school,
00:16you know as a first step on his way
00:18to becoming the President of the United States.
00:20The Tony Award winner spoke to The Hollywood Reporter
00:22about taking on the part
00:24and what fans can expect from season two.
00:26Platt, of course, headlined Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway
00:28before starring in the Ryan Murphy Netflix series.
00:31As to what it was like to transition from the stage
00:33to the small screen, Platt said,
00:35a lot of it is in the practicality of showing up to work
00:38and having someone four feet away from you
00:40and pointing a camera in your face,
00:41as opposed to walking into a large room
00:43with lots of people sitting and listening to you.
00:45And particularly in this show,
00:47the writing is so verbose and heightened,
00:49it's so reminiscent of the theater
00:50that I felt very much at home.
00:53See, gentlemen, I'm gonna be President of the United States.
00:56I'm merely stating a fact I will be President someday.
00:58I'm warning you, do not screw with my dream.
01:01Platt's co-stars include Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Lange.
01:05The actor, who was also a talented vocalist,
01:07had plenty of musical moments in season one.
01:10But will there be more in season two?
01:12He revealed.
01:13I've only read the first couple of episodes,
01:14but so far season two isn't musical.
01:17And if it is, it'll be a very similar situation
01:20where only when Peyton would organically be singing
01:22in his life would we try to put a song in there.
01:24It's so hard to have to try so hard all the time.
01:27You're gonna change the world, Peyton.
01:30How do you know?
