Noel Redding. The latter had been the bassist and backing vocalist for the renowned psychedelic rock band The Jimi Hendrix Experience since 1966, but by 1968 he was deeply dissatisfied with his position in Hendrix's band. Redding himself had considerable experience as a lead guitarist and was eager to get going, but who would allow him to play guitar and record his own music in the shadow of the greatest guitarist of all time? "Fat Mattress" opened up new opportunities for Redding to express himself.
