00:00A good news today story where we take you today to a village in Bihar where the practice of dowry
00:06is banned. Well not just today but for many decades. It's been one of the first dowry free
00:12villages in the country. Take a look. Over 6,100 women lost their lives in dowry related incidents
00:21across India in 2023. Dowry a social evil still thrives in the country but there is a
00:29village in Bihar where the practice is abhorred. This village in Gubharia near Bagha town is
00:40inhabited by the Tharo tribe, a community that doesn't follow the practice of dowry.
00:44In Tharo society, marriage is considered a sacred social bond in which money and transactions
01:01have no place.
01:12If the rest of the country drew inspiration from this small village, it could spell the end
01:17of dowry system. Wishful thinking but still.
01:21With Abhishek Pandey, Bureau Report, India Today.
