Violence erupted in Sofia as thousands protested against Bulgaria’s 2026 budget, which critics say fuels corruption and public debt. Demonstrators threw rocks and firecrackers at police, chanting slogans including “Mafia” and “Delicious apples are eaten by pigs.” The protest, organised by PP-DB, drew up to 20,000 people at Independence Square. Three police officers were injured.
