00:00The tributes are pouring in for Prince Philip, who passed away today at the age of 99.
00:05So as is protocol, palace staff brought the notice out to the gate of Buckingham Palace for it to be on display for the public to see.
00:13So they come, yeah, they put the notice right on the gate there.
00:17And then the flag is also at half mass above the palace.
00:22Yeah, so it was about three weeks ago that Prince Philip was released from the hospital after a month-long stay
00:28as he was treated for an infection.
00:30The Queen has issued a statement through the palace following her husband's death.
00:34It says,
00:34It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty the Queen announces the death of her beloved husband,
00:39His Royal Highness the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
00:42His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
00:46Further announcements will be made in due course.
00:48The royal family joined with people around the world in mourning his loss.
00:53Now the Queen will reportedly enter an eight-day mourning period.
00:56He is expected to be buried at Frogmore Gardens in Windsor Castle.
01:00There will be a royal ceremonial funeral in Windsor with a military procession, but he won't lie in state.
01:06Philip reportedly said he didn't want all that fuss when he passed, which is a very Philip thing to say.
01:11He reportedly was involved in planning his own funeral before he passed.
01:15The palace has confirmed that the funeral will adhere to COVID-19 guidelines,
01:18and they're asking people to not gather en masse to grieve.
01:21Yeah, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tells us today,
01:26It was with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of the Duke of Edinburgh today,
01:31a man of great purpose and conviction who was motivated by a sense of duty to others.
01:36Prince Philip contributed so much to the social fabric of our country and the world.
01:41Prince Philip will be remembered as a decorated naval officer, a dedicated philanthropist,
01:46and a constant in the life of Queen Elizabeth II.
01:49The thoughts of all Canadians are with her and the entire royal family as they mourn the significant loss.
01:54Two of his children, Princess Anne and Princess Edward, recently gave an interview to ITV with their father prior to his death
02:02and reflects on her father's decision to end his own career to support the Queen.
02:07It shows a real understanding of the pressures that the Queen was going through,
02:15and that the best way he could support her was by giving up on his career.
02:20Well, at least the image that certain parts of the media, news media, would portray of him being slightly sort of restful was always an unfair depiction.
02:32But that was only that because he used to give them as good as he took and always in a very entertaining way.
02:40He always, my father was always capable of being able to manage interviews in a way
02:45and say things that the rest of us always dreamed that we could say.
02:49You ask anybody who had the privilege of listening to him speak or any of the events that he hosted,
02:56it was always his humour that came through and the twinkle in his eye.
03:01Yeah, 99 years old, like quite a life.
03:06And I think about Philip that he was a guy that kind of stayed behind the scenes a little bit.
03:10Like when I follow the Royal Family to a certain extent, but I feel like I know Elizabeth a lot better,
03:15obviously William and Harry and Kate and Prince Charles.
03:18But yeah, it always seemed like Philip tried to stay out of the spotlight as much as possible.
03:22But like what Edward said, yeah, he had that rebellious side to him.
03:26Like I remember the clip a few years ago where he's saying, just take the effing picture.
03:29But yeah, that's what people seem to remember about Prince Philip.
03:32But yeah, what do you take away from the life of Prince Philip?
03:37I mean, you know what?
03:38I mean, just to be very honest, you know, this passing is a bit polarizing.
03:44You know, some people feel one way, some people feel a complete different way.
03:48And, you know, it's hard to live your life as a public figure and people either love you or hate you.
03:53I think that is the case with Prince Philip.
03:55In this situation, 99 years, you know, this is an individual, whether you, you know, love him or hate him or not.
04:01He is someone that gave a lot.
04:03He gave a lot back.
04:06And I think that's what we should remember is the positives that he gave back as much as we can.
04:11But yeah, to live 99 years and to be for the people in that way and that, you know, your whole life is dedicated to that, it says a lot.
04:21I don't know too much about Prince Philip.
04:24I don't follow the royal family, you know, in full detail, of course, you know.
04:29But I never, I never, and I'm just saying this because I'm seeing what's going on on social media.
04:35And I just, I'm not a fan of celebrating people's passings in a joking way or a mean way.
04:43I'm just not a fan of that because there are people who are still alive who are grieving and who are going through pain.
04:49And it's not nice to put salt on people's wounds.
04:51So I'm very sensitive about that.
04:54But otherwise, you know, I just think that, like, he did do a lot of good things.
04:58And that's what we should focus on right now.
05:02Right.
05:03That's the thing.
05:03I mean, he served his country.
05:04Like, he was in the military.
05:05So anyone that serves the country in the military, you have a lot of respect for.
05:08And, I mean, the reality is, like, of course, you know, UK is very split in terms of people that are very pro-monarchy and people that aren't.
05:15Reality is, like, Prince Philip did his job very well.
05:18You know, he followed the rules of the monarchy.
05:20He did that.
05:20He did that job very, very well.
05:22So whether you support the monarchy or not, like, he really continued it in a way.
05:27And I think it's interesting.
05:28I think we're going into a new era of, you know, his passing really is another marker that we're going into the new era of the monarchy, whatever the monarchy ends up being.
05:37But, yeah, for his time, like, people wanted him to be, you know, this prince.
05:43So he was that for people.
05:44So I don't think you can fault him in that.
05:45Yeah.
05:46Yeah.
05:47And I'm seeing comments about, like, Princess Diana and Meghan Markle, and that's why they're not a fan of Prince Philip.
05:53I actually don't know all the context of that.
05:56So please forgive me.
05:57But I'm just, you know, we're talking about someone who just passed away, guys.
06:01So, you know.
06:03But also, too, remember that Harry and Meghan made a very clear point to say that Prince Philip was great to them and great to Meghan.
06:13He wasn't the one who said the artsy comments.
06:16So that says something to me, too, that Harry and Meghan made the point of acknowledging that it wasn't him.
06:21So you've got to, yeah, you've got to give up.
06:22But, yeah, I know people have problems with the royal family.
06:24But, yeah, anyone who's serving the military, you have to have a certain amount of respect for it.
