Transcript
00:00Now we all know that name dropping, especially in music, is pretty common but it looks like
00:04Sharon Stone isn't letting that fly and is suing a rapper for doing just that.
00:08The actress is suing Chelsea Dudley, aka Chanel West Coast, for using her name a dozen
00:13or so times in a song called Sharon Stoned, saying the rapper is trying to capitalize
00:17on her quote, "...extraordinary level of popularity and fame." To back up that popularity
00:22and fame, Stone went on to name a laundry list of her credits in the lawsuit from roles
00:26in Basic Instinct and The Disaster Artist, as well as listing her award nominations,
00:31award wins and philanthropic work. She states that because of the reputation she's built
00:35in the industry, she maintains strict control over how her name and likeness are used.
00:40Meanwhile, the 31-year-old rapper released her first mixtape in 2013 and dropped
00:45Sharon Stoned in 2018. The first 30 seconds of the song basically don't use any other
00:50words other than Sharon or Stoned as you can hear here.
00:56And the phrase Sharon Sharon Sharon Stoned is repeated on loop a number of times throughout
01:02the rest of the track. Stone is suing for unfair competition and violations of her
01:06right of publicity and is seeking to stop Dudley from using her name or image as well as
01:10seeking damages for any profits the rapper earned as a result of the song and video.
