"Every film/TV set that uses guns, fake or otherwise, should have a police officer on set, hired by the production, to specifically monitor weapons safety," he posted on social media.
00:00Alec Baldwin is urging Hollywood to employ a police officer on every film and TV set that uses guns.
00:06The actor and producer shared a tweet on his now private Twitter account and reposted it on his Instagram that reads,
00:12Every film slash TV set that uses guns, fake or otherwise, should have a police officer on set, hired by the production, to specifically monitor weapon safety.
00:20Baldwin's plea comes in the wake of the October tragedy on set of his indie western Rust,
00:24when director of photography Galena Hutchins died after being struck by a live round from a gun fired by Baldwin.
00:31According to a Santa Fe County Sheriff's affidavit that was used to obtain a search warrant,
00:35Baldwin had been handed a firearm ahead of the gun discharged by assistant director Dave Halls,
00:40who said it was a quote, cold gun, meaning it wasn't loaded to rehearse a scene.
00:44Baldwin's call for police to be present on sets with guns comes a few months after a group of activists renewed their demands
00:49that studios stop using police on set or at events.
00:52In the wake of George Floyd's killing by a police officer and the ensuing protests against police brutality and racism.
00:58The original demands were made by activist group BLDPWR, a.k.a. Build Power,
01:03as part of the Hollywood for Black Lives letter signed in an effort to divest Hollywood from police ties
01:08and push the industry to invest more in black creators.
