00:00Souls-like fans get ready to lose another chunk of your life.
00:04The new and improved Lords of the Fallen just dropped,
00:07and while it might not quite live up to some of the very high standards games like Elden Ring have set,
00:13developers Hexworks have come up with some pretty nifty ideas that were very nicely implemented.
00:20According to IGN, a lot is borrowed from FromSoft Classics, in this case Dark Souls specifically,
00:25but there's tons of unique stuff to get excited about too.
00:29That includes things like some super cool dual reality shenanigans,
00:34or a nifty magical lamp that lets you flay the souls right out of your enemies.
00:39GameSpot reports that the main element that sets the game apart is the Umbral Realm,
00:44an alternate dimension that sits on top of the world you see as you play through the game.
00:50As a dark crusader adventuring across the world in hopes of stopping the return of an evil god,
00:55you have the unique capability of interacting with and even entering the Umbral.
01:01And there is a lot to this mechanic.
01:03Not only does it lend itself to some great exploration and backtracking that feels exciting and rewarding,
01:10but gives the player a second chance at survival when you're knocked into the realm
01:14instead of dying outright when fighting something stronger than you.
01:17There's a lot to say about Lords of the Fallen,
01:21but that mechanic alone makes the whole thing worth it.
