‘No permission, no travel’: UK to enforce new digital travel permit rules from February 2026

Visitors from countries such as the US, Canada and Australia will not be able to enter the UK without an ETA from 25 February 2026 onwards.

00:00Well, this scheme is essentially a border security measure.
00:28So we are taking details in advance from everybody who's not a UK or Irish citizen or a visa national.
00:36They still have to get visas.
00:38And we're checking them against our systems to make sure that there's no adverse information about them in the UK or a criminal record.
00:46We'll be able to see their immigration history.
