00:00It's safe to say Elon Musk and Grimes' relationship has been a hot topic in celebrity news ever

00:06since they first got together. The two started quietly dating in early 2018 after bonding

00:13over artificial intelligence on Twitter. They made their red carpet debut as a couple at

00:18the Met Gala that year. At the time, news of their relationship resulted in a flurry of

00:23memes online from fans who were caught completely off-guard by the new romance.

00:28From there, Musk and Grimes, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher, made headlines pretty often,

00:35like when they sparked breakup rumors after unfollowing each other on Instagram,

00:39as noted by Business Insider, or when Azalea Banks accused them of holding her hostage.

00:45The Canadian singer also really shocked everyone when she announced she was pregnant with her first

00:51child in January 2020. Two months later, she confirmed to Rolling Stone that the Tesla and

00:57SpaceX founder was the father. However, nothing broke the internet more than when the pair announced

01:03they named their newborn son ex-Ash A-12 Musk. Sadly, the couple has broken up after three years

01:10together. Elon Musk confirmed he and Grimes are no longer together in a statement to Page Six on

01:16September 24. He said,

01:19We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently, and are on great terms.

01:25The tech billionaire hinted that his work schedule and the long-distance aspect of their relationship

01:31played a role in their decision to split up, but that they will continue to be amicable co-parents

01:36to their son. He explained,

01:38It's mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling

01:45overseas, and her work is primarily in L.A. She's staying with me now, and Baby X is in the adjacent

01:52room. According to Page Six, Musk and Grimes were last seen together at this year's Met Gala,

01:57which occurred right before their breakup announcement. Though the pair did not walk the

02:02red carpet together, they reportedly met up inside the event and later attended a private Met Gala after

02:08party at Club Zero Bond in New York City. Ever since they started dating, Elon Musk and Grimes'

02:14relationship had its fair share of hardships, particularly after they welcomed their child.

02:20A source revealed to Us Weekly in May 2020, Elon and Grimes have experienced a lot of ups and downs

02:26in their relationship throughout Grimes' pregnancy and have been on and off. They noted that even though

02:32the two may not last as a couple, they, quote,

02:35have and will continue to maintain a close friendship, regardless of their romantic

02:40involvement. The insider added,

02:42Regardless of what happens to them romantically, Elon plans to be a father figure and be involved

02:48in the life of his child. The Canadian singer also shed some light on the relationship — and

02:53not understanding what she — was getting into at all — in a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone.

03:00Not that I'm mad about it — I just didn't think it would be a thing. The s*** that's happened with

03:06my boyfriend this year has overwritten so much of my life's work. Now, Grimes will have plenty of

03:12time to focus on her own work, as Musk continues his headline-making career. Regardless, it's promising

03:18to see that they are planning on working together as co-parents to their son. Elon Musk and Grimes began

03:24their romance as a California dream, complete with mansions and private jets. But Musk and Grimes went

03:31from the celebrity high life to living in, quote,

03:34almost a literal box, as the Houston Chronicle put it, in Texas with Baby X.

03:40In June, The Week reported that Musk sold seven of his homes and moved into a 20x20 prefab home from

03:47startup Boxable. The couple and Baby moved into the $50,000 Boxable Casita, which is basically a studio

03:55apartment. Moving into a studio apartment with a Baby would be a tough transition for most couples,

04:00but considering the couple used to live in multiple mansions, the downsizing to the Boxable Casita had

04:07to be an epic shock. On June 9, Musk tweeted,

04:11My primary home is literally a $50,000 house in Boca Chica, Starbase that I rent from SpaceX.

04:19It's kinda awesome. Though, only house I own is the events house in the Bay Area.

04:25Green Matters reported that the new home for Musk, one of the richest people on the planet,

04:30would rent for $250 a month. They say money can't buy happiness, but moving into a box after

04:37living in a mansion might not have sparked romance for Musk and Grimes.
