Chris Benoit, a 40-year-old Canadian professional wrestler employed by World Wrestling Entertainment  murdered his wife Nancy and their 7 year old son, Daniel, before hanging himself at their  residence in Fayetteville, Georgia, over a three-day period from June 22 to June 24, 2007.  His brain was donated to be studied for possible CTE, since Chris has displayed many symtoms of CTE. 00:00Welcome to the True Crime and Mystery Lounge. Today we talk about a heartbreaking and

00:08unbelievable story. Today we talk about the Chris Benoit incident. If you don't know who

00:17Chris Benoit is, he was a French Canadian professional wrestler who wrestled for the

00:24biggest wrestling company, WWE, where he won titles such as the World Heavyweight

00:31title and the US title and he achieved a lot of things within his wrestling time.

00:42The world woke up to the devastating news on June 24, 2007 that Chris Benoit have

00:52committed suicide in his house located in Georgia. But that was not all. The tragic part was before

01:01he took his own life, he murdered his wife and their kid who was only seven at this time.

01:09Autopsy showed that his brain was not normal. It had a lot of damage from all the years of wrestling.

01:24And on top of that Benoit was consuming steroids, which is known to increase rage and anger.

01:31He was known among his friends and family as a gentleman. He was quiet and serious. He was a hard worker

01:43and a good family man. So how did it all go wrong?

01:52Three years prior to this incident, Benoit's best friend Eddie Guerrero died.

01:58Eddie was Benoit's friend from the very beginning of their career and they made it to the top together.

02:06Eddie's death affected Benoit badly and he went into depression mode. He never became the same person ever again.

02:17On top of that, him and his wife Nancy were having a lot of issues between them

02:23and he also saw that his career is taking a downturn because of his age and multiple injuries.

02:33So beside his thoroughbred consumption, he also started taking anti-depressant medication.

02:43Another close friend of Benoit and a former wrestler Chavo Guerrero,

02:48which happens to be related to Eddie Guerrero, Benoit's best friend. He spoke in an interview

02:55after the incident and he said that Benoit called him the night before and he told him that someone's

03:04stalking him and he's feeling uncomfortable. But Chavo didn't take it seriously at this time

03:11and he told him you're probably tired and need some sleep. Next day, Chavo tried to call him, but there was no answer.

03:23So what do you think cause the rage? And how can a gentleman

03:32turn to a monster and end the lives of his beloved ones?
