00:00This is Ted O'Brien's first real chance to put a stamp on what he's going to be as Shadow
00:07Treasurer. We're not expecting any big flashy policies today, noting that the next election
00:13is still a long way away, but it's a real signal of a return to core Liberal principles
00:18after the Coalition opposed tax cuts at the last federal election. Now, we already know
00:25that there's going to be Coalition tax cuts proposed at the next election, and Ted O'Brien
00:30says that they're crucial in giving some relief to bracket creep, which he says is an assault
00:37on the next generation of workers. Now, when we talk about that return to core Liberal principles,
00:43it's reducing government spending, it's growing the economy. We'll wait and see exactly what
00:48he has to say about how he'll achieve that, but that's the tenet of what Ted O'Brien's
00:54going to be talking about this morning. Now, across News Channel already today, we've seen
00:59Jim Chalmers, the Treasurer, not let that go unchallenged. He's out on the front foot. He's
01:04done modelling on Liberal promises that have already been announced, including a rise in
01:10defence spending, and he says that that would be unaffordable for the nation's budget. So,
01:15we'll wait. There will be a contest of ideas on the economy today. We've, of course, got
01:20inflation data coming out in the next hour or so, so it'll be an interesting day on the
01:24economy, and we'll wait and hear exactly what Ted O'Brien has to say later today.
