00:00We're going to stay with the war in Ukraine and turn to South Africa because an investigation
00:05has been opened into the former president Jacob Zuma's daughter. She's been accused of luring
00:11men into fighting for Russia in the conflict. Authorities say Duduzil Zuma Zambudla tricked
00:18men by telling them they were traveling to Russia for a parliamentary training course.
00:23We're going to get more on this from France 24's correspondent Eunice Masson who is in Cape Town
00:27for us. Eunice thanks so much for joining us. Just bring us up to speed with what we know
00:32about this investigation so far. Yes so what we know about this investigation is quite limited at
00:39this moment but we know that the police now have opened an inquiry docket that is like you've
00:44mentioned after Ngozana Zuma Nkube filed an affidavit against her sister Zuma Zambudla now alleging that
00:52she unlawfully mislaid a group of men to Russia. Now two other names also were mentioned. Zuma
00:57Zuma Nkube and also Blessing Kosa have also been mentioned in her affidavit and according
01:03to Zuma Nkube she felt morally obliged to open the case. So we know that the police have confirmed
01:10that the matter is being investigated but it has been handed over to what you call South Africa's
01:16directorate for serious and priority crimes the Hawks. And this I must mention that this latest
01:21development hopes to escalate the matter further. But before it was an official investigation by the
01:27police about the allegations of the recruitment it was known to the government and the Ukrainian
01:34embassy in South Africa. Two weeks ago President Sororo Mopoza ordered a full investigation into how
01:41the men were recruited. Ukraine's ambassador to South Africa has publicly said that these men were
01:48lured to fighting the war describing it as highly regrettable. So this is where we are at. So we hope that
01:55the latest development might escalate further investigations. But we all are wondering what
02:02what is happening to to the men who have been recruited and circumstances of the men who claims that they
02:09were recruited under false information have have largely been reported by a journalist called Ivan Pios. He has
02:16built a relationship with family members since July and he has managed to speak to four men who claim
02:23who claim they are currently forced to fight for Russia and they to indicate Zuma Zambutla and the two
02:31other accused. And through Pios' reporting it is clear that the men did not know that they were sent to Russia to fight in the Ukraine-Russia war and their plea is to come back to South Africa.
02:45Eunice, thank you so much for bringing us up to speed. Eunice Manson there reporting live from Cape Town.
