00:00Ghana's Foreign Minister Samuel Okudseto Ablakwa made the journey to the Ukrainian
00:05capital Kyiv on Wednesday. It's a rare visit, but the Ghanaian official made it for a specific
00:12reason. Ukraine recently captured two Ghanaian citizens who were found fighting for the Russian
00:19army. I also am pleased with the discussion so far about the release of two prisoners of war.
00:28Let me use this opportunity to assure the Ukrainian people that the Africans who have found themselves
00:34here in this war are not sanctioned by African governments. They are not sanctioned by the
00:39government of Ghana. I can speak for President Mahama and I can speak for the government of Ghana
00:44that these are victims of criminal networks who were lured by the dark web and a lot of
00:53them have told us that they were offered jobs. Russia has recruited hundreds of men from various
00:59African countries for its invasion of Ukraine, oftentimes making false promises of employment
01:04opportunities in Russia. Russia is trying to drag citizens and residents of Africa into death and
01:13war. According to our data, more than 1,780 citizens from the African continent are currently fighting in
01:23the Russian army. We are talking about mercenaries. Many of them are dying or have already died. We have
01:34already captured quite a few of them.
01:37In total, according to our data, representatives from 36 African countries are participating in
01:45hostilities on the side of Russia.
01:51Recently, an intelligence report revealed that over 1,000 Kenyans had also been enlisted in the army,
01:58prompting the Kenyan government to call upon Moscow to bar the conscription of Kenyan soldiers.
