00:00PS3 emulation update isn't great news for some PS Plus users.
00:05Sony partner Implicit Conversions has provided an update on its dream PS3 emulation project,
00:11and it's not what PS Plus Premium users wanted to hear.
00:15In a new interview, CEO Bill Lithauer revealed that PS3 emulation is more of a backburner
00:21passion project because there's more demand for PS2 games, and Implicit Conversions hasn't
00:27been asked for PS3 games specifically by Sony either. Highly demanded PS3 games continue to
00:33elude PS5, PS4, and PS Plus. The good news is that Implicit Conversions is working on PS3
00:40emulation with a third party, so the project isn't dead, as Lithauer confirmed to YouTuber Mystic.
00:47Those hoping to see downloadable PS3 games on the PS5 and PS4 are going to have to wait.
00:52PS3 games are currently only available via cloud streaming, so PS Plus Premium users
00:58who don't have the internet speed to stream games will have to stick to downloadable classics.
01:03And PS Plus users outside of streaming countries, where Premium is replaced with Deluxe,
01:08don't have access to PS3 games on PS5 and PS4 altogether. Those without a PS Plus subscription
01:15are also completely out of luck unless they have access to a PS3 console.
01:19The full interview is highly recommended, as it reveals many interesting details about
01:24bringing classics to modern platforms. One standout takeaway is the revelation that porting
01:29classic games is generally an expensive undertaking, and some developers choose not to include trophies
01:35because the feature adds to overall development costs. Another interesting tidbit is that the
01:41process of porting classics is sometimes complicated by licenses and IP changing hands over the years,
01:48and in some cases, license or IP owners are deceased.
