00:00Cameron Boyce's parents are opening up about the late actor's final performance in the indie
00:14thriller Runt. Known for his roles in the Disney Descendants films and the TV show Jesse,
00:19Cameron died in July 2019 at age 20 from a seizure caused by sudden unexpected death
00:24in epilepsy. Runt, now available on such platforms as Apple TV, Prime Video, and Voodoo,
00:29signaled a pivot to more mature roles for the young actor. In the film he plays Cal, a tortured
00:34self-destructive teenager with a shoddy moral compass. His mom Libby Boyce told The Hollywood
00:39Reporter he wanted to dig into a character that could really challenge him because the whole
00:43Disney formula had gotten very, you know, it wasn't challenging anymore to him. Runt has a lot of dark
00:48issues. Runt is dedicated to Cameron, who died while the film was in post-production. And as an
01:03extension of that dedication, 1091 Pictures is partnering with the Cameron Boyce Foundation,
01:08a non-profit organization created by the Boyce family. The group's goals are to raise awareness
01:12and funding to help cure and eliminate sudden unexpected death in epilepsy and to support
01:17causes Cameron was aligned with in his lifetime. Cameron's father, Victor Boyce, said,
01:22It will be helpful if the film does well because it will help the foundation. Carrying on Cameron's
01:26legacy is our top priority, and continuing the foundation is what we want to happen. So hopefully
01:31this will help us to do that. For more on this story and the full interview, go to THR.com.
