EU must ‘stand by the promises made’ on digital rules, Vestager tells Euronews

In an interview with Euronews' flagship morning show Europe Today, the former digital czar Vestager urged the EU to stand firm on its digital rules as the US pushes for softer enforcement in exchange for tariff relief. "Defending rules vital for single market and European consumers."

00:00Europe must stand firm by its digital rules was the message sent by Margate Vestager,
00:08former European Commissioner for Competition.
00:10Interviewed by Euronews on the Europe Today programme, the Danish Liberal politician called
00:15on the EU not to bow to American pressure for weaker implementation of European digital
00:19rules.
00:20One thing is important, and that is that we have promised Europeans that their services
00:24would be safe to use for their mental health, for their democracy as such.
00:29And that is, of course, core in any democracy.
00:32Vestager urged the EU to stand by its landmark legislation of the Digital Market Act and the
00:37Digital Services Act, both approved during their former EU Commission's tenure, which
00:43lasted between 2014 and 2024.
