00:00Previously on Sweet Empire, six newly formed empires faced off.
00:06Each team worked together to prove they weren't just toying around.
00:12Okay.
00:13Damn it, Jonathan.
00:14Stakes were high as the bottom two empires crumbled.
00:17And the remaining four empires grew stronger.
00:21Francois, who will you be choosing?
00:23Cammy.
00:24Jonathan, you sure do look good in green.
00:26Come on, get your butt over here.
00:28We're gonna go with Sarah.
00:29Really?
00:29Dana, you can join Tatiana and Erin.
00:32Now, four new empires move forward with their quest to conquer the Winter Wars.
00:38Stakes are so high.
00:40I don't want my empire to crumble.
00:41We're gonna kick butt in the next competition.
00:44One small bad mistake, and that could be, you know, for you.
00:48This is Sweet Empire.
00:51Sincerely yours, Lord Dingerton.
00:53Oh, wow.
01:02Nice.
01:02Wow.
01:03That is super cool.
01:04Hello, bakers.
01:06Welcome to the movies.
01:07Wow.
01:07Holy boy.
01:09Now, empire is actually a triple threat.
01:10Cake and sugar and chocolate.
01:11No other empire has all these skills.
01:15I'm excited to see what we come up with.
01:17Four teams are standing strong, but if you want to stay standing, you better bake like your empires depend on it.
01:25Nils and Francois were first place last week, and they picked me.
01:30So, I have to show up with my A-game.
01:34Quick question for you.
01:36Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?
01:39SpongeBob SquarePants!
01:42Bakers, grab your pirate hats, because today we're sailing into Bikini Bottom.
01:47All right.
01:48That's awesome.
01:49Families love going to the movies during the holidays.
01:52So, have I got some news for you.
01:54Your challenge today is inspired by Paramount Pictures, the SpongeBob movie, Search for SquarePants.
02:01Yay!
02:03It's coming to theaters on December 19th.
02:05Woo-hoo!
02:06Here's a special look.
02:09Watch out for the skeleton guardians!
02:12What?
02:13Watch out for me!
02:16Watch out for the wa-oof?
02:18Not sure what that means.
02:20Plus, it's hard to hear with all the...
02:22Sounds.
02:24Well, whatever it is, I'm sure it's not that important.
02:27Ah!
02:28Ah!
02:30Patrick, I think these are the guys who are gonna...
02:33Fortify our intestines!
02:36Yay!
02:38Yeah!
02:39Yeah!
02:40Oh, yeah!
02:42SpongeBob and the gang are heading out on their biggest adventure yet,
02:45and today, your empire will turn that big-screen moment into a blockbuster, edible, 3D movie poster.
02:53That's awesome!
02:55Oh, yeah!
02:55This is gonna be a fun one!
02:57This is gonna be cool!
02:58You'll pick a character from the movie and bring them to life.
03:01You'll design and build an edible frame, sculpt your character, and make them defy gravity.
03:07Oh, cool.
03:09We want these posters to feel alive, just like a scene from the movie.
03:13And since SpongeBob is a sponge, yeah, sponge cake.
03:18But add some holiday flavours that would make even the Flying Dutchman smile.
03:22I absolutely love this challenge.
03:25I think it's amazing, and it's gonna be so much fun.
03:28You'll display your posters in our very own theatre in just eight hours.
03:33Lights, camera, action!
03:39Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go.
03:41All right, all right, all right.
03:43So.
03:44Time.
03:44This is exciting.
03:45Two plans.
03:47What character do you think we should do?
03:50SpongeBob.
03:50SpongeBob.
03:51Oh, sorry.
03:52Sorry for asking.
03:54I am so excited for this.
03:56I come from a family who are big fans of SpongeBob.
03:59Is he gonna be our anti-gravity element?
04:01Yeah.
04:02He is the most recognizable character from the series,
04:04so we really have to get him spot on with all of the details.
04:08We are going to incorporate Gary.
04:10We're gonna have Plankton on the bottom of SpongeBob's shoe,
04:12and we're gonna have the Flying Dutchman kind of coming into the poster from the background.
04:17What are we gonna do for our frame?
04:18We can make it look like the bottom of the ocean still has certain details to it.
04:23Definitely some corals, flowers, you know, seaweed.
04:27Glad we have you for that.
04:28I'm not sure you can come up with something.
04:30All right.
04:32As the newbie, I have to show that we can rock and roll.
04:36You know, you come onto a team that's already running, you hook to a locomotive, that thing's going down the track.
04:42You gotta show that you belong.
04:43I like Patrick.
04:44I mean, I love Patrick.
04:45I like the book.
04:46You gotta be Patrick.
04:47You gotta be Patrick.
04:48So my favorite SpongeBob character is Patrick, because he's so goofy, he's so fun, he likes ice cream, just like I do.
04:56I swear, if I could be a starfish in another life, I would be, because they're lazy.
05:00They do nothing.
05:01All day.
05:01Why wouldn't we have him, like, swinging from a rope or something?
05:06Yeah, and the rope can be the armature.
05:08Yeah, because then that way he's...
05:09Supported.
05:10Yeah.
05:10And suspended.
05:12We're going to make Patrick swinging over this really creepy eyeball worm thing, tentacles moving around him.
05:21I actually dig that.
05:22I think we should definitely have an expression on him, like, like, ah, right?
05:26Because, I mean, that's just what he does, right?
05:28Give him a t-shirt, give him pants.
05:29Pants.
05:29Do we have to give him pants?
05:32When we're watching the trailer and he jumps out of the trunk and he's got, like, a loincloth made out of an eye patch, it's wonderful.
05:38I mean, listen, this is a fun...
05:40It's on the trailer.
05:41It is.
05:41Lou and Holly, they have a sense of humor, and so I love that we all are stoked about the same things.
05:46Like, I feel like I've found my home in this team.
05:49Well, I think we've got a good plan.
05:51Yeah.
05:51I love it.
05:52Ready to do it?
05:52Let's go.
05:53I'm ready.
05:54Which character are we going to take?
05:55What about Mr. Krabs?
05:56He likes money.
05:57We want to win, right?
05:58Yeah, we want the money.
05:59Okay.
06:00Mr. Krabs.
06:01Now I feel very confident because I have finally a cake artist with me, and the main piece, it's something I cannot do.
06:09I never make a character from cake.
06:11They have to defy gravity, so...
06:13I think if we have him kind of, like, up on a foot...
06:17So I'm going to have to rely on Kami to do the main piece.
06:20So he doesn't touch the floor?
06:22Are they maybe just one foot?
06:24I don't know.
06:25I'm not sure if it's enough for them because they want to defy gravity.
06:28Sure.
06:29And this, you don't defy gravity when you do this.
06:31So I don't make cakes like this very often.
06:36These gravity defying, very, very recognizable characters.
06:40I am incredibly nervous.
06:42I do not want to let my new team down.
06:45What did you see?
06:46What characters did you like?
06:48The Flying Dutchman.
06:49Okay.
06:49That's, you know, the hardest one.
06:53It would be.
06:54I do think that might...
06:55In my opinion.
06:56Great idea.
06:57He seems like the most complicated character.
07:00I'm not sure about it.
07:01He'd be the coolest one to do as well, though.
07:02He was really cool.
07:03And I like the colors.
07:03I won't push someone to do something if they don't want to do it.
07:08Unless, well, maybe it's for the good of the Empire.
07:10You know, the team wants the Flying Dutchman.
07:13Then it's got to be good.
07:15What other pieces do we want in there?
07:17Some version of his ship?
07:18Ship.
07:22I don't know quite how I feel about that.
07:24I think Elizabeth is a super strong leader.
07:27I think she really, really wants things her way.
07:29And sometimes it might come off intense.
07:31Just saying.
07:32We don't want it to be the main focal point.
07:34We don't want it to say, like,
07:36you did this really cool big ship,
07:37but your main character, he's, like, this big.
07:40So maybe we'll have the ship small.
07:42So it looks further away.
07:43And high up.
07:43Yeah, so it looks like it's further up in the distance.
07:45Perfect.
07:46Our particular scene is in the underworld.
07:49So there's lots of, like, stalagmites and rock formations.
07:53Let's show them what we're made of.
07:54Let's freaking go.
07:55One, two, three.
07:56Let's freaking go.
07:57All right, let's get down to business.
07:59Let's make a cake, shall we?
08:01Got a busy day.
08:03Oh, my goodness.
08:04Oh, that's heavy.
08:05Are you ready, kids?
08:07Aye, aye, Captain.
08:09I can't hear you.
08:11What do you guys think of these colors for the backboard?
08:13We're going to do a white to green to blue to dark fade
08:16like they're in the cave.
08:17Perfect.
08:18It's not just, like, a freestanding structure.
08:20So you actually have to make the picture frame
08:22that the pieces are in.
08:24Without, like, a good background,
08:25stuff just kind of lies flat.
08:26Okay, I'm going to do the pineapple confit inside, okay?
08:29Okay, perfect.
08:31As soon as that's out of the oven,
08:32then I can get started stocking cake.
08:34So the tasting element for the cake.
08:36First, I make a carrot cake
08:38with a vanilla whipped ganache
08:39and some pineapple confit in the middle.
08:42For this challenge,
08:43I'm making some very bright and intense flavor.
08:46The carrot cake go to the oven.
08:48Nice, here we go.
08:50That's my way to do a cake.
08:52It's going to be magical?
08:53It's going to be magical.
08:54How do you say magical in French?
08:56Sorry, magique.
08:57Man, I feel so cultured.
08:59You guys are so cute.
09:01She's, like, in the middle of a love triangle now.
09:03You're telling me.
09:05Oh, come on.
09:07Coming into this new empire,
09:09I was a little worried about being a third wheel.
09:12They kind of have this bromance going on,
09:14so I wasn't sure how I was going to fit in.
09:16Hey, Nils,
09:17that bromance of yours and Francois,
09:18you guys end it?
09:19It's no longer a bromance.
09:21They kind of need to listen to me a little bit
09:23because this cake is the focal point,
09:26and that's my forte.
09:29So I'm going to make some edible fabric
09:31for Mr. Krabs' pirate bandana.
09:36Nice.
09:37So you take wafer paper
09:39and a mix of gelatin and glucose,
09:42and then it dries like fabric.
09:44You just cornstarch it,
09:45and then it can go around his eyes like a bandana.
09:48Look, guys.
09:51Nice.
09:52And Nils, I'm glad we got Kami
09:54because we're not so good in cake.
09:56I'm glad we get a cake artist.
09:57Oh, yeah.
09:58All right, I got little legs.
09:59I got his claws.
10:00I got his body.
10:02Oh, yeah.
10:02The cake is stacked.
10:03I'm just going to work around you
10:05so you can make Mr. Krabs Mr. Krabs.
10:07Mm-hmm.
10:08Mr. Krabs really is just balanced
10:10on something the size of your fingers.
10:13I think it should be gravity-defying enough.
10:16Watch out, guys.
10:19Beep, beep, beep.
10:20I'm responsible for SpongeBob.
10:22Hello.
10:23Hello.
10:24I love doing 3D characters,
10:25but you don't have much time.
10:27Okay, I got to get my SpongeBob going.
10:29Heard.
10:30He's the most important part, you know?
10:32Yes.
10:33Because we're doing
10:34the most recognizable character,
10:35we're going to have to spend a lot of time
10:37and put a lot of work into SpongeBob himself.
10:41SpongeBob is the coolest.
10:42Tatiana is going to be focusing
10:44on bringing SpongeBob to life.
10:46I'm going to be working on the tasting element,
10:48and then Dana is going to be doing sugar techniques.
10:51There's an episode of SpongeBob.
10:53One of the characters' favorite ice cream flavor
10:55is prune ice cream with brand sprinkles.
10:59I'm going to do a brand cake.
11:00Hold up.
11:01That kind of sounds a little
11:04old home, retirement community.
11:08To tie the holiday in,
11:09I'm going to go kind of for, like,
11:11a sugarplum vibe.
11:13Uh-huh.
11:13As an old head, I'm listening to him.
11:15I'm like, I don't know.
11:17I know you're old school in the kitchen.
11:19I'm old school SpongeBob.
11:20All right.
11:21I want to get the SpongeBob set up and done.
11:24That should hold it together.
11:26Oh.
11:27Huh?
11:28They already builded it.
11:30Builded what?
11:31Our original plan was to put the background on
11:35before we put SpongeBob on,
11:37but Tatiana's already built up the cake.
11:39Oh, lordy, lordy, lordy.
11:41I was so worried about, you know,
11:43getting SpongeBob going.
11:45I completely forgot that we wanted to cover the board.
11:47Tatiana started building SpongeBob right on the piece.
11:51Now you can't lay the board down
11:53to put a nice, smooth piece of fondant on there.
11:55Yeah, I'm about to figure out how to paint it with sugar.
11:58We have to change our plans.
12:01It's not a great way to start building for our team.
12:03Better hurry up.
12:08Change of plans.
12:09What?
12:11We're gonna...
12:12We can't lay the board down.
12:14As soon as we start building SpongeBob,
12:16we no longer can put it on its side
12:19to panel the background as we had originally planned.
12:22Dude, buttercream.
12:23We're gonna do buttercream on this side, okay?
12:25So do me a favor.
12:26When I may have a chance,
12:27mix buttercream that color.
12:28And I'm not feeling super great about this decision.
12:31Okay.
12:31Okay.
12:32Because we don't have time to be laying this around.
12:34But as the leader on this team,
12:35as soon as I start to show that I'm panicking,
12:38I don't want that to kind of creep into the rest of how the team is feeling.
12:42I'm trying to keep things calm and collected.
12:44I have my brand cake,
12:45and I'm doing an apricot and honey soak on it.
12:49And then on the inside,
12:50I have my dried fruit spice compote.
12:53It'll add a little bit of sweetness,
12:55but it'll also help prevent it from getting soggy on the inside of the cake.
12:59You're working on sugar stuff, right, Dana?
13:01Yes, I am.
13:02I'm on sugar duty today.
13:03So, Tati, I'm gonna pour this over the ice,
13:06and it's gonna make, like, coral.
13:07It's like the same idea with the chocolate, correct?
13:09Yeah.
13:10I have a lot going on.
13:12I have to pour, you know, giant leaves, sugar coral, frame.
13:16I have a lot of different techniques that I have to get through.
13:21Ooh.
13:22This is gorgeous.
13:23Yeah, we gotta get that sugar boom, boom, boom.
13:26I think somewhere there's a learning curve that has to happen
13:29between myself and my teammates to say,
13:32hey, listen, I can go about this fast with sugar.
13:34You go any faster, we're gonna be calling medics.
13:38I'm gonna need your help.
13:39Yeah, I'm here for you.
13:41That is very...
13:43It's all right.
13:43We'll stretch it out a little bit as much as we can.
13:45I will be painting the backdrop,
13:48which will be a good setting for the whole display
13:50that we're gonna be making.
13:51Oh, yay!
13:52Oh, look at that.
13:54Beautiful.
13:57Plug it in, Holly.
13:58It might be good.
14:01Moron.
14:01We are making a nutmeg-flavored cake
14:04with an apple pie filling,
14:06Irish cream liqueur buttercream,
14:08and a praline crunch.
14:10So I'm taking on all the tasting,
14:16but I'm also gonna sculpt Patrick.
14:18This is a lot.
14:20It's nice, thin layers,
14:22so they bake it fast.
14:24I gotta start Patrick's butt.
14:25Aren't you guys, like, in a relationship?
14:27We're in a situation status,
14:29because he hasn't called me back.
14:30He won't commit.
14:30I know, he won't commit.
14:32I've always been kind of like a natural leader,
14:34but I realize with age that being a leader,
14:36I'm grouchy.
14:37I'm just grouchy as .
14:38I feel at ease here on this team,
14:42and I know that I'm not the weirdest.
14:45Hey.
14:47I feel more comfortable now not being a leader
14:50and just doing what I'm good at.
14:52So I'm sculpting eyeballs.
14:53We honed in on these eyeball things,
14:56and then I'm gonna do the tentacles,
14:57because, like, I could do tentacles
14:58with my eyes closed,
15:00and then I'm gonna make rocks
15:01and seaweed and coral wherever I'm needed.
15:04This is my first challenge
15:06that I'm actually enjoying and excited about.
15:09Shh, don't say this.
15:10Am I not allowed to say that?
15:11You can say it.
15:12Just, you know, Dana's right there.
15:14Okay.
15:15Uh-huh.
15:15Well, wasn't that some sugar honey iced tea?
15:19Guys, I'm gonna make a honeycomb
15:20for, like, some for the board
15:21and then some for the cake.
15:22Oh, my God, that's gonna add
15:23another layer of texture, too.
15:24And that, yeah.
15:25It's just golden syrup and sugar,
15:27and then you add baking soda to it.
15:29The baking soda, it activates it
15:31and makes it that really nice sponge toffee.
15:34It's awesome.
15:36It's the best candy ever.
15:38All right, we have sea life.
15:40I love rice paper techniques.
15:42I'm just trying to give it
15:43as much texture as possible.
15:46Yay!
15:46Yay!
15:49Take in your mixer, Elizabeth.
15:51It's mine now.
15:52You got a cake person now.
15:54Are you cutting for my job?
15:55The first thing I'm gonna hit
15:56is my tasting elements.
15:57I have to get those cakes in the oven
15:59so they can cool down
16:00along with all my fillings.
16:01Let's make a green inside.
16:02Okay.
16:02Maybe, like, a pistachio,
16:03so, like, when you cut them,
16:04it's green on the inside.
16:05I'm gonna do, like,
16:05an egg white cake, uh, base cake.
16:07Uh-huh.
16:07I'm gonna use the egg yolks
16:08to make a French buttercream.
16:10I think it's very, like,
16:11no one uses it anymore,
16:12so I think it's gonna be, like,
16:12a nice richness,
16:13and I think the judges will appreciate it,
16:15because it's...
16:15Well, especially Jacques.
16:16You did the French buttercream for me?
16:18I would definitely say
16:19I'm a great pastry chef.
16:19I really know how to mesh flavors
16:21very, very well.
16:22Elizabeth needs to focus on the character.
16:23I really, really want to work hard
16:25to show Elizabeth
16:26that she made the right decision
16:27by choosing me.
16:28I think you like this color.
16:29Yes, perfect.
16:30It's nice to have someone
16:31to bring the lightheartedness
16:33into the group.
16:34I don't know, you want to try it?
16:37Hi.
16:38Why, thank you.
16:39Ha.
16:39Do-do-do-do-do.
16:40Do-do-do.
16:43It's a bit much.
16:44Oh.
16:46We're so corny.
16:47We divided the responsibilities
16:49to our strengths,
16:50so I'm responsible
16:51for all of the chocolate work.
16:53I'm making two large panels
16:54that are sort of a backdrop
16:56of stalagmites.
16:57I'm also in charge of the frame, which will be planks
17:00that are going to go around the border of the poster.
17:03Renu? Yes.
17:04I'm leaving a border onto the wood,
17:07so I'm removing the fondant.
17:09So that way our big chocolate-heavy frame
17:11has something nice and strong to adhere to.
17:16OK. The frame is super important.
17:18Flying Dutchman has a rickety ship,
17:21so for our border, we're going to do chocolate slats and planks.
17:24Remember the plan. OK, remember the plan.
17:27Your chocolate needs to be able to stick to wood.
17:29Of course, of course.
17:32When I'm doing something that I know a lot about,
17:34it can get frustrating if someone's bossing me around.
17:37Got to get those proportions right.
17:42Elizabeth, I hear you need a sword
17:43for Mr. Flying Dutchman over there.
17:45Yeah.
17:46I'm making it sharp like an actual blade.
17:48Got that all nice and sharp at the top.
17:50We want this to look real and normal.
17:53Now it looks like a real sword.
17:57I'm making the chocolate anchor for the ship.
17:59So I made a little mould to make this anchor.
18:03We also have a little skull and crossbones from the mast
18:06and kind of, you know, goes with the Flying Dutchman.
18:09This is a dark chocolate that I'm using right now.
18:12I find dark chocolate is just a stronger chocolate
18:14for a structural work, so I like to use dark.
18:17Yeah, this isn't half weird at all.
18:20Gravity-defying is always going to be a challenge.
18:23Getting the structure proper and making sure
18:28that Patrick stays in the air is a bit tricky,
18:33and you never know if it's going to work
18:35until you start to put the cake on.
18:38He's falling.
18:39No.
18:39Because he's falling down already.
18:41Oh, .
18:42His booty is just too heavy,
18:45and he starts to slide down the structure.
18:48Are you guys okay?
18:49Uh...
18:50What's wrong?
18:51He's falling all the way down.
18:52Yeah, he's just going to fall.
18:54What do you want me to hold so you can...
18:55Nothing. Okay.
18:56I got it.
18:56This is a nightmare.
18:58This is the biggest part of burpees.
19:01We can't have Patrick without legs.
19:04Okay. Kill me now.
19:06I'm going to end up at the bottom of Bikini Bottom,
19:09and my empire is going to dissolve.
19:16So, what happened?
19:17I thought it was way too heavy,
19:19so now I've got to try and work out how to put...
19:22make this stay here.
19:24Patrick's falling.
19:25This is a nightmare.
19:28I am frustrated.
19:30Yeah, we don't have time for this crap.
19:323D cakes are my jam.
19:34I literally do them in the baker at least once
19:36a week.
19:37Praise to the cake gods.
19:38I can see over at Holly's team,
19:39and they're struggling a little bit,
19:42which is honestly kind of shocking.
19:45You guys figure something out?
19:46Yeah, we'll pivot.
19:47That's what I do.
19:48I'm the leader, so I have to get this right.
19:51Oh, girl.
19:52Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
19:55Ta-da!
19:56Woo!
19:57High five. Well done.
20:00I feel like I've lost an hour.
20:02Well, that was one disaster I didn't want to do today,
20:04but, hey, we pivoted and we made it work.
20:07We're going to put chocolate melts in here
20:08to fill it in, smoothing them all out.
20:10I'll start stacking the cake.
20:11She'll be apples, mate.
20:12We got this.
20:13It's going to be fine.
20:14I got my eye on you.
20:17I'm going to finish these up,
20:18and then I'll airbrush them,
20:19and they'll be ready.
20:21Now I'm doing the panna cotta,
20:22and after we'll do the macaron.
20:24Excellent.
20:25A little bit of chocolate.
20:26I'm so happy you know chocolate,
20:28so I can focus on my tasting,
20:30and you do all the chocolate work.
20:31We're going to do two jellyfish eyes spinning
20:34on the top of the backboard,
20:35so we'll have the tentacles gravity-defying,
20:37and they're really fragile,
20:39so ultimately, it has to be extremely precise.
20:42That's going to be my buns for the little burger.
20:45I want to make patty crabs.
20:47Patty Krabby?
20:48What's that, patty crabs?
20:50I'm doing the macaron now.
20:51So I'm making a macaron,
20:52egg nut panna cotta with caramelized white chocolate,
20:55and a mango jelly.
20:56Those are cool.
20:58Looks great.
20:59You want a little burger for the Patty Krabby?
21:01Patty Krabs.
21:02Patty Krabs.
21:03He keeps calling them Patty Krabs.
21:06They're supposed to be Krabby Patties.
21:09It is so endearing and so funny.
21:12It's all we say in France, okay?
21:14I hear the name in French.
21:16I'm trying to get it.
21:17It's not the Krabby Patty.
21:18Uh, no, that's not right.
21:22All right, where we are?
21:23Just have to get the main components done
21:26so we can start building.
21:28Just make them look real pirate-y.
21:30Getting this started to get covered, I feel better.
21:33So time flies so very quickly.
21:37We still have to put clothes on.
21:38We still have to put the hat on.
21:39We still have to get Mr. Krabs onto the base.
21:44There's so many things that we have to do
21:46and kind of do them simultaneously.
21:48So many gold accents, details, all those little things that really bring a character to life have to be done so we are under the gun.
21:57How you doing, old school?
21:59You know, just writing them books you all be reading.
22:02Aaron's literally younger than one of my children.
22:05How are you feeling, kiddo?
22:07Yeah, I see you, Sarah.
22:09Old school.
22:10I'm 47.
22:11Millennials and Gen Z, they, like, have no idea.
22:14Gen X and, like, we're hardcore.
22:16We're the OG gangsters.
22:17We're not old school.
22:18What is he talking about?
22:19A little whipper snapper.
22:21We're just over here working on your lesson plan.
22:24Oh, really?
22:25Oh, really?
22:26Dude, bring it on, Aaron.
22:28Wow.
22:29Shots fired.
22:30Why is everyone shooting fire now today?
22:32You all were so nice in the beginning.
22:34We see your true colors, all of you.
22:37Now it's like...
22:39I'm going to blame it on perimenopause.
22:42Don't with a menopausal woman.
22:47Does this look like a nose?
22:48Yeah.
22:49Looks good.
22:50Looks like SpongeBob's nose.
22:53Aaron is like a SpongeBob encyclopedia.
22:56He knows that cartoon by heart.
22:58Does this look legit?
22:59I need you just to keep an eye because...
23:01That looks good.
23:02He has a very big, cheesy smile.
23:04I'm, like, checkpointing with him.
23:06Is this good? Is the size good? Is the color good?
23:08Nice dimples.
23:09Just got to make sure you get the freckles on there, too.
23:11Holy cow.
23:12This kid really did grow up on SpongeBob.
23:14He's got his game together.
23:16Like, our empire is not crumbling today.
23:19Is this legit?
23:20No, Aaron. Everything he does is legit.
23:23We be putting the beard on.
23:25Holy cheese and crackers.
23:27That beard is everything.
23:28The Flying Dutchman is meant to be gravity-defying,
23:31and he's a ghost, so we really don't want to have
23:34any poles coming out the bottom that we're going to hide.
23:36It's like a seamstress. Just hold, pin that there.
23:39For a ghost to truly be hovering and gravity-defying,
23:43we're going to have our support out the back,
23:45and I think that's going to be the coolest way to do him.
23:47Renu, I'm starting the sock shortbread cookies.
23:50Oh, that looks what a gorgeous color.
23:51Added some pistachio and some citrus zest,
23:53so I did lime, lemon, orange.
23:55Sounds delicious.
23:56You're so good with those flavors.
23:57Thanks.
23:58Just going to adjust your coat tails.
24:01Elizabeth.
24:02Yes.
24:03The Flying Dutchman only eats with socks.
24:05He does.
24:06Got sock cookies.
24:07Oh, those look so cute.
24:08And they look like socks, too.
24:10I can put them in the treasure chest.
24:12Ah. Can you make it open?
24:14I can make it open.
24:15Let's do that.
24:16Going into the oven.
24:18All right.
24:19Next.
24:20I'm working on my isomalt now.
24:22I'm also going to take care of a bunch of sugar elements.
24:25Oh, that looks awesome.
24:26That looks really, really good.
24:28Nice.
24:33Bakers, you have 30 minutes.
24:35One half hour.
24:36Aw.
24:37Give me some of that pink.
24:38While you're mixing it together.
24:40I haven't even started to cover, Patrick.
24:42Let's get on there, all three of us, one each side.
24:45Right, got it.
24:46And start smoothing him.
24:47Come on, Lou.
24:48Come on, Sarah.
24:49Let's get this.
24:50Breathe for me, girl.
24:51Breathe.
24:52Come back to life.
24:53We were exhausted, but, you know,
24:55we're moms, so when you're a mom,
24:57you have no time to complain.
24:58You have to just get it done.
25:00We have a fondant smoother?
25:01Yes.
25:02I don't have time to really smooth him out,
25:04and I'm not happy.
25:05Way too many bumps and lumps.
25:07I've just got an air bubble that won't go away.
25:09He's getting a shirt.
25:10As a mom, nobody else is going to do it,
25:12so no one's crying here.
25:14No, we're just going to keep moving.
25:16Put your shoes on.
25:17Let's go.
25:18I've never been so tired.
25:2120 minutes remaining.
25:22Move fast.
25:23We only got 20 minutes.
25:24I need to cover his hat with that.
25:26Where's his hat?
25:27I don't have it done yet.
25:28We have a lot of things to apply.
25:29We do.
25:30I have a partially made face.
25:32I have floating arm picks.
25:35The shelf is a problem.
25:36No, it's not a problem.
25:38For my boarder, it is.
25:39I'm in charge of the frame.
25:40Just carve a chunk out.
25:41These details are important.
25:43Focus on the things that are most important.
25:45I've got to quickly come in with shoulders and arms.
25:48I'm going to be right over here.
25:49Is that going to be manageable?
25:51No.
25:52Okay.
25:53There is chocolate stuff everywhere.
25:55Oh, it's everywhere.
25:57I don't think that Elizabeth respects chocolate.
26:00Chocolate, love it, but me.
26:03And, uh, yeah.
26:06She's not, you know, as into chocolate as I am.
26:09Dana, we've got to start covering the background
26:11with buttercream.
26:13Dana and I are painting the background.
26:15Where are we on time?
26:16Not enough.
26:17That's where we're at.
26:18Or, I guess, smearing buttercream all over it.
26:20Don't put too, too much, guys.
26:22Just lightly.
26:23Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
26:24That's a really awkward angle.
26:26You can paint over this, but he needs some creases, you know?
26:28Yep.
26:29Patrick has his striped shirt on,
26:30and it'll just be faster for me to paint.
26:32I'm going to wear whatever bloody shirt that we've got.
26:35I think it's enough.
26:37I have to be at this point.
26:38We need chocolate to paint on this to match it.
26:40We've got money that needs to go on.
26:42Coral that needs to go on.
26:43Tasting element.
26:44We're exactly where we need to be.
26:45We're ballin'.
26:46Stop talking like that, calm, cool collector.
26:48How dare you?
26:49One minute remaining, bakers.
26:51Just get it on there.
26:52You have to hurry.
26:53Oh, something just fell.
26:54We've got stock mites falling.
26:55Oop, the claw's going.
26:56Okay.
26:57Give me a skewer.
26:58Skewer?
26:59Yeah, right there.
27:00I feel a ton of pressure knowing that if I mess up Mr. Krabs,
27:04we're screwed.
27:05I mess up Mr. Krabs.
27:07We're screwed.
27:08Now move.
27:09One of the very, very last things that I'm trying to do with the hands.
27:12I need to get to the head area, okay?
27:14They're kind of soft and I don't know if those are going to hold up
27:17in the positions that I want them to be.
27:19Cold spray.
27:20Keep going, go.
27:21We need to glue this.
27:22You can hold on.
27:23Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one.
27:33Hands up, bakers.
27:34Woo!
27:35Thank you, guys.
27:36Oh, yeah.
27:37God.
27:38I'm looking all around and I see everybody with frame
27:41and I'm like, did we have to make a frame?
27:45Woo.
27:46I'm definitely nervous.
27:47I can see parts of exposed wood on our backboard, which is a huge no-no.
27:52That was a lot of fricking work.
27:54I really want to keep my empire intact, but I'm really kicking myself
27:57for not having done the backboard first.
28:00Bakers, today we asked you to make a 3D poster inspired by the SpongeBob movie
28:19Search for Square Pants.
28:21We'll be looking for how the character in your movie poster came to life
28:25and we'll be paying close attention to how it defies gravity.
28:29And we really want to taste the flavor of the holidays in your creation.
28:34Those flavors have to be delicious and bold.
28:37Up first is Aaron's empire.
28:40So when I think of the holidays, I think of a joyous time of year
28:43and I don't think that there's a better character within the series
28:46or the movie that encapsulates that than SpongeBob himself.
28:49We wanted to include a lot of details.
28:51If you notice, there's Plankton on the bottom of his shoe.
28:53We have his pet Gary here.
28:54And unbeknownst to him, we have the Flying Dutchman ship
28:56slowly kind of entering the scene from the background.
28:59Gary!
29:01He's fast for a snail. Look at that.
29:04He is a fast snail.
29:05You know, French love snail.
29:07Escargot.
29:08Escargot.
29:09Be careful. Jacques is going to eat him.
29:12I love how bright and punchy your cake is.
29:17Main character energy.
29:19I think movie posters, the whole point is to jump out at you
29:22and make you want to see the movie.
29:23And this piece definitely does that.
29:25I love the color. I love the defying gravity.
29:28I love the movements.
29:29The 3D of the boat coming out of the poster is outstanding.
29:33What's catching my eye is we can see exposed board
29:37and it just feels like such a mess.
29:39Imagine a customer that you deliver a cake
29:42and they can see the board.
29:43They will say, what's happened here? It's not finished.
29:46We were supposed to carve it in fondant.
29:48I'm really disappointed in myself
29:51with the fact that we have this exposed wood on the backboard.
29:54This could be the difference between us moving on intact
29:58as an empire or the empire dissolving.
30:01Aaron, maybe we can cut into this thing and try it out.
30:04Aaron, can you explain the flavors?
30:07One of the character's favorite flavor of ice cream
30:10is prune ice cream with bran sprinkles.
30:14Okay. So we have a bran cake with a honey and apricot soak.
30:18There is a compo of all of the dried fruit and spices
30:21you'll get classically in a sugar plum,
30:23a rum and golden raisin cream cheese mousse,
30:26and then a nut crunch in there for some texture.
30:30Brand cake is not something I expect,
30:32but I have to say the rum soak, the fruits and the spices,
30:36as well as the filling that you've chosen,
30:39all work very well together.
30:41It does taste like the holidays.
30:44It's not too moist, but we have some moisture.
30:46It's not dry.
30:47So that show how good you are
30:48because this is not an easy thing to pull.
30:50Aaron, you can tell that you're a fan of SpongeBob
30:53and it really shines through on your guys' piece.
30:55It's delicious. Well done.
30:59Holly, Sarah, and Lou.
31:03Ooh.
31:04Look at the light. Oh, my God.
31:06So Patrick here is swinging to freedom
31:09and escaping all the evilness.
31:11There sure is a lot to look at,
31:14and I mean that in a good way.
31:16Lou, I want to compliment you on that painting.
31:18These eyeballs in the back, creepy and wonderful.
31:22The legs with the tentacles are amazing,
31:24the fact that there was movement.
31:26Patrick is larger than life,
31:29and you really made him defy gravity.
31:32He's happy. Look at that smile.
31:33Yes, yeah.
31:35I'm just happy Patrick is wearing bikini bottoms, you know?
31:38It's an eye patch, yeah.
31:40I wish he was a little cleaner.
31:42I also wish that the stripes on his shirt
31:45were a little more straight.
31:47Miranda, you're completely right.
31:49Bigger the cake, more flow will show.
31:51That's always like that.
31:52I mean, that doesn't mean you need to do something tiny,
31:55but it's very hard to hide or to.
31:58So be careful with the time.
31:59That's very important.
32:00Yeah, knew it was coming.
32:02Like, I saw it a mile away.
32:04Patrick's bumpy and lumpy,
32:05but maybe you just had too many Krabby Patties.
32:08I've never had starfish, but I'd like to try.
32:11So we have a vanilla nutmeg sponge soaked with an Irish cream liqueur,
32:16an apple pie filling with an Irish cream Swiss meringue,
32:20and pecan praline for a little crunch.
32:23I love apple pie.
32:24This is delicious.
32:25I can feel the apple.
32:27I can feel everything.
32:28Bold flavor and the holy day.
32:30It's like a warm hug.
32:31Yeah.
32:32Yeah.
32:33You know I want to eat this on a couch.
32:34You're right.
32:35This was a lot of fun.
32:36Thank you guys so much.
32:37It was fun for us.
32:38Francois, Nils, Cammy.
32:41You've come in between this beautiful relationship.
32:44My babies.
32:46Oh, gee.
32:47We have Mr. Krab that is running to save a sponge bomb from the underworld.
32:53So he's only on one leg and he's trying to carry in the same time
32:56the paddy crabs and some fall on the floor.
32:59The Krabby Patties.
33:00The Krabby Patties.
33:01Overall, it's very bright and colorful.
33:06His shell is nice and shiny and Krabby.
33:09What I'm concerned about is he doesn't appear as gravity defying
33:12as some of the other Kegs.
33:14He's on one leg.
33:15His legs are just this big, so.
33:18I'm actually kind of annoyed.
33:20Mr. Krabs is on one leg.
33:23How much more gravity defying do you need?
33:26He's definitely the best dressed.
33:29His outfit is pretty good.
33:31Better than Patrick's.
33:33He's so fired.
33:36Wow.
33:37Wow.
33:38Savage.
33:39Another thing that we did ask you is to build a frame around the poster on the back
33:46and there is no frame.
33:48So in a way, the poster looks a little bit unfinished the way it is.
33:53I feel stupid as a leader to, you know, miss something that important.
33:59We've got two tasting elements.
34:01The cake is going to be a traditional American carrot cake that you find in the holiday.
34:05But I added some pineapple.
34:07And then the little sandwich is a macaron with eggnod panna cotta, caramelized white chocolate,
34:13and then mango jelly.
34:14Macaron.
34:15Macaron.
34:16Macaron.
34:17I love it.
34:18Look, you make fun of me all the time.
34:20So, you know, I need to make fun of you a little bit.
34:23Carrot and pineapple go well together.
34:26Oh, my gosh.
34:27And the Krabby Patty, you have the nice shell of the macaron, and then the eggnog really shines through.
34:33Yeah.
34:34Thank you guys so much.
34:36They love the taste.
34:37They love the color.
34:38They love the character.
34:39There's a couple little technicalities that could cost us.
34:42Elizabeth, Renu, Jonathan.
34:46Oh, my God.
34:47Look at that.
34:48The whole part of the Flying Dutchman is he's rather eerie and he's very expressive.
34:52That's part of his character.
34:54He has a bag of souls that he always has nearby.
34:57And, apparently, he also can't eat unless he has his sock.
35:02I guess it's like a comfort thing.
35:04So, we have for you a special little treat inside the chest as well, because you can't eat your tasting without a sock, just like the Flying Dutchman.
35:12The chocolate walk is great.
35:15You can see the wood imitation, the way it's cracked on the side, the front wood, the anchor.
35:21I love it.
35:22You know, the sugar walk is beautiful.
35:24Overall, it really tells a story.
35:26The Flying Dutchman himself, he's well sculpted.
35:29In terms of defying gravity, he does it very well.
35:33He looks like he's just sort of swam in from the underworld.
35:37I do think you spent a little too much time on the detail of his body.
35:40And then when we get down to his sleeves and certainly his fingers on his right hand, we can see some of the pieces not as sturdy and falling off with exposing some wire.
35:52I would love to try the Flying Dutchman.
35:56Our cake is a pistachio cake with a pomegranate cranberry compote, a pistachio brittle pomegranate arrows, and then French buttercream.
36:03It is a French, listen to the accent.
36:07This is good cake!
36:11Definitely taste the holidays.
36:13I really love the cranberry pomegranate.
36:16It's nice and bright, next to the richness of the pistachios and, of course, the French buttercream, which is the richest of them all.
36:23Pomegranate is a pretty rare fruit to find into cakes.
36:27I think this is the first cake that I eat with pomegranate.
36:30It's a good cake.
36:31Thank you guys so much.
36:32This was fantastic.
36:34It may have had minor flaws, but I want us to win.
36:37That way Elizabeth can feel like she made the right decision.
36:39I gotta say, all four empires did a fantastic job today.
36:43We were really, really impressed.
36:45The competition is getting tougher.
36:47Every detail matters.
36:49Otherwise, we are going home crumbled.
36:52The winning empire had a lot of beautiful elements that really came together and told us a story.
37:01In first place...
37:11In first place...
37:17Elizabeth's empire.
37:18Oh, well done.
37:20Way to go!
37:21Way to go!
37:23Way to go!
37:24Way to go!
37:25See, positive attitude, positive results.
37:29We won!
37:30Flippin' egg!
37:31What a surprise.
37:32I mean, slap me and call me an auntie or whatever it's called.
37:36The saying is, I mean, I can't believe it.
37:39How do you guys feel?
37:40Fabulous, shocked.
37:41Amazing.
37:42We haven't won anything yet.
37:43We haven't won anything yet as an empire of three, two, solo.
37:49It's just been kind of close, but just not quite there.
37:53So it's just a big, big surprise.
37:55So our next favorite empire had a lot of color, a beautiful presentation and we had, again, very good flavors.
38:05Important.
38:06The second winning empire is...
38:08Aaron empire.
38:09Holy .
38:10It feels good to be moving up in the world.
38:11I think with the addition of Dana to our team, we were able to elevate each other in a way that helps us do just that much better than the previous cake.
38:29Oh, the young boy does love the old school.
38:33Francois empire and Holly's empire.
38:38Today, one of your empires will fall.
38:40I know it's not my best work.
38:42I know it sucks.
38:43It's just not good.
38:45Both these teams are incredible, but one stood out above the other.
38:50So I'm feeling a little down.
38:52It didn't look like it was gravity defying.
38:55I definitely don't want to be responsible for breaking up this bromance.
38:59The third place empire is...
39:01Holly.
39:06Holly.
39:07Oh.
39:08Oh.
39:09You have a lot of time.
39:12Thank goodness.
39:13Oh, thank goodness.
39:15You work so well together.
39:17You smile, you help each other, but also look at the clock.
39:21Make a schedule and you will shine even more.
39:26So, Francois, how do you feel?
39:29That's it.
39:30No more bromance.
39:33This is my chance to nab Francois and to bring him on board and have him join our empire.
39:41Francois empire.
39:43One of the problems today was an unfinished presentation.
39:47I love my empire.
39:48I want to continue with them, but it's over.
39:52My empire crumbled.
39:53In this game, empires rise and empires fall.
39:58But not today.
39:59All of you knocked it out of the park today, and we'd like to see these four empires work together again.
40:13Wow.
40:14Wow.
40:15Wow.
40:16Wow.
40:17I feel like I was a bad luck charm.
40:19Oh.
40:20You're good luck charm.
40:21Look at that.
40:22I hope you like the team you're on, because all four empires will move on intact to the next challenge.
40:30The bromance remains.
40:32The bromance remains.
40:33It is bloody bonkers.
40:38We didn't get to bring anyone on or get to pick who's coming onto our empire.
40:42We didn't get anyone for our empire.
40:45Elizabeth, your empire is going to get an advantage in the next challenge.
40:49Ooh.
40:50You're going to want this advantage, because in the next round, the losing empire will be eliminated.
40:59This competition is so fierce.
41:01We have so much more to prove, and I'm not ready to go home.
41:05Elizabeth's empire, you'll find out your advantage soon.
41:08But none of you are safe from elimination.
41:11This is insane.
41:13I seriously have no idea, like, what's going to happen next.
41:16So fight like you mean it, because you're all baking to survive.
41:22Next time on Sweet Empire, you'll create a hyper-realistic holiday feast.
41:28This is my jam.
41:29Each team will create realistic seasonal dishes.
41:33We don't have time.
41:34Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
41:35Big enough to feed an entire family.
41:37This fish is so important.
41:39Today, one of your empires will fall, and you'll be going home.
41:42Holy .
41:44This next challenge, someone's going home.
41:46And not just one, the whole empire.
41:48Time is ticking.
41:49We have a legit chance of winning.
41:51The question is, can we finish this thing?
41:53Ooh, that lo mein bowl needs cleaned up.
41:56What?
41:57Oh .
41:58There goes all the hardware.
41:59Here's all of hardware.
