Daniel Pemberton tells THR on the red carpet of the 2024 Golden Globes how the score for 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' had to be just as groundbreaking as the film itself.
Transcript
00:00What does it mean to be here as a nominee tonight for this film?
00:03It's always cool to have your work recognized,
00:06and especially with Spider-Verse, it is probably the most complicated film score I've ever done,
00:12like, from a musical and technical point of view, so it's awesome when people, like, dig it as well.
00:18The score really makes this film, and the music is such a big part of it.
00:22When you're approaching a project like this, where do you start?
00:25Well, like, a big thing for me is I always try and do very different kinds of films.
00:29And, you know, I did Ferrari this year as well,
00:31and it's one of those things of trying to get a world which allows you to be very creative,
00:37and despite, like, the whole, the way they did Spider-Verse,
00:40like, so many, like, thousands of artists working on it,
00:43making something really groundbreaking means you can try and make a score that's as groundbreaking, hopefully.
00:48Spider-Verse has multiple nominations tonight, and, of course, this is the party that kicks off awards season.
00:53Who from the Spider-Verse crew do you think is going to party the hardest?
00:57Uh, probably me.
00:59The director said you earlier.
01:01Oh, really? Yeah, yeah, I have a reputation for staying up late.
01:03You've got to remember, most of my life I'm stuck in a room going beep, beep, beep on a computer.
01:06So, actually, when I get out, it's quite exciting for me. It's like, it's a rarity.
01:09So, my life is quite insolent, you know, so this is exciting.
