00:00They greenlit a show about a 30-year-old woman and so we wrote a show about a 30-year-old woman
00:05doing things that 30-year-old women do. Fans were disappointed to say the least when the
00:10Lizzie McGuire reboot never made it to air. But now we're getting more insight into plot details
00:15of the canceled reboot. The show, which was set to follow a grown-up version of Hilary Duff's
00:19character from the Disney Channel series, was canceled in 2020 due to creative differences
00:24between Duff and Disney Plus executives. Now in a series of TikTok videos, writer Jonathan Hurwitz
00:30revealed what storylines fans could have expected in the first few episodes. Episode one reportedly
00:35started in New York with a 30-year-old Lizzie working as an interior designer. She's dating this very
00:40handsome chef and she ends up finding that he's been cheating on her with her best friend. The
00:47betrayal prompts her to head back to her childhood home in California where animated Lizzie is there
00:52waiting for her. In episode two, we get answers on if Lizzie and longtime bestie Gordo are Endgame.
00:57Gordo reveals that he is engaged, engaged to a woman and she's pregnant and they're really happy.
01:04So no, in this version, Lizzie and Gordo would not have ended up together. Hurwitz added that the
01:10second episode ended with Lizzie getting a message from her childhood crush, Ethan Kraft, which led to
01:15the controversial third episode, which he believes executives took issue with. Lizzie wakes up in Ethan's bed
01:21in his water polo t-shirt and animated Lizzie pops up and she has this little like checklist,
01:27like a to-do list and Ethan is on the list and she checks it off. Duff previously opened up in a
01:33woman's health interview about the decision to scrap the reboot, saying she told the streamer she
01:37wanted the new series to feature a more mature Lizzie. She had to be 30 years old doing 30-year-old
01:43things. She didn't need to be doing bong rips and having one-night stands all the time,
01:47but it had to be authentic. I think they got spooked. For more on this story, head to THR.com
