Mr. Darcy from 'Pride and Prejudice' may have been universally loved but one person who has a bone to pick with the role is Mr. Darcy himself Matthew Macfadyen. The Emmy-winning actor looked back at the 2005 film he starred in opposite Keira Knightley during an interview with CBS Mornings and admitted that he "didn’t really enjoy" his role. Macfadyen added that he didn't feel like he was the right choice for the role of Mr. Darcy.

00:06Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice may have been universally loved,

00:09but one person who has a bone to pick with the role is Mr. Darcy himself, Matthew McFadden.

00:14The Emmy-winning actor looked back at the 2005 film he starred in opposite Keira Knightley

00:19during an interview with CBS Mornings and admitted that he didn't really enjoy his role.

00:24I feel bad saying that, but I did, I, I, there were moments I had a good time,

00:28but I wish I'd enjoyed it more, I wish I was less worried about it.

00:31McFadden added that he didn't feel like he was the right choice for the role of Mr. Darcy.

00:35I just felt, maybe I felt a bit miscast, or I'm not dishy enough, or I'm not, you know, but it worked out.

00:41And it sure did, as the movie went on to score four Oscar nominations and a strong fan base over the years.

00:47The British actor also confessed that he still gets excited when he's recognized as Mr. Darcy in public.

00:53Probably the most flattering thing that happens to me now is people say,

00:55were you Mr. Darcy? And it's a good, good 20 years later. So I think I can't be aging that badly.

01:02The film, based on Jane Austen's novel of the same name, centers on the developing relationship

01:06between Elizabeth Bennet, played by Knightley, the daughter of a country gentleman,

01:10and Mr. Darcy, a wealthy English aristocrat.
