00:00Norman Lear's family revealed that the legendary TV writer-producer was listening to the songs
00:05that he made iconic when he passed. Lear's son-in-law opened up to CBS Mornings about
00:11his touching final moments. The family was gathered around the bed. He was very comfortable
00:15and resting peacefully, and we did what we knew he would want. We were singing songs from Les Mis,
00:21which he loved, and also some of the songs from his TV shows. Some of Lear's shows included All
00:26in the Family, Good Times, and The Jeffersons. And then we were singing, you know, moving on up
00:31to the east side. And then when I heard myself say, to a deluxe apartment in the sky,
00:39and I just lost it because he's going to some deluxe apartment in the sky, maybe.
00:45He also expressed how the family wanted to give Lear a soft landing for the plane.
00:49If you were to say to somebody when they were 40, how do you want to die? Oh, at 101,
00:54surrounded by loved ones with them singing to me and laughing, and without any pain. And that's
01:02exactly what happened. He also added, he had this expression, over and next. When something was over,
01:07it's over, and it's on to next. It's the best definition of living in the moment.
