00:00Director Bong Joon-ho finally teased his upcoming film, Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson.
00:11The filmmaker made his first trip to CinemaCon, where audiences were treated to the first trailer of the film,
00:17which many were eagerly anticipating, given that it is Bong's follow-up to the best picture-winning Parasite.
00:22The director called the film the story of a simple man who ultimately ends up saving the world.
00:27Mickey 17 is based on the novel Mickey 7 and follows a space colonist known as an Expendable,
00:33those who do the colony's most dangerous work and often die in the process,
00:37only to be brought back to life through human printing technology.
00:40The protagonist in the novel is the seventh version of a man named Mickey Barnes,
00:44but the director upped the ante for the film.
00:46The number is the number of times he dies. I killed him ten more times.
00:50The trailer featured some rather violent scenes, such as Mickey losing a hand and being dumped alive into liquid metal.
00:56With his consent, of course.
00:58The film also stars Mark Ruffalo, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, and Toni Collette.
01:03Meanwhile, Pattinson, who plays two characters, Mickey 17 and 18,
01:07called Bong's script one of the funniest, bizarre sci-fi scripts I've ever read in my life.
