Deep in the Kumrat Valley, where the road ends at Dojanga, the wilderness truly begins. During my trip in July 2025, I was lucky enough to spot this beautiful male Yellow-breasted Greenfinch (Himalayan Greenfinch) foraging in the high-altitude meadows.

About this Bird: The Yellow-breasted Greenfinch (Chloris spinoides) is a stunning songbird native to the Himalayas. Unlike the common greenfinch, it sports a striking high-contrast "bandit mask" and vibrant yellow wing bars. In summer, they migrate up to 8,000+ feet to breed in cool pine forests like those found here in Upper Dir.

📍 Location: Dojanga, Kumrat Valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. 🗓️ Date: July 2025

00:00Dujanga is where the roads end and the true wilderness begins.
00:04Here deep in the embrace of the Khumrat Valley, the air in July is crisp,
00:09carrying the scent of pine and glacier water. Amidst the towering giants of the Hindu Kush,
00:14the true magic is often found right at your feet. This is the Himalayan greenfinch,
00:19the yellow-breasted greenfinch, a tiny living spark of sunlight dancing in the shadow of the
00:25valley. Notice that striking mask, the contrast of deep olive black against a brilliant yellow brow.
00:32It's a nature-perfect design, while the rest of the world burns in the July heat here in the high
00:38altitude of Dujanga. We travel for the mountain, but we remember the moments, a splash of gold in
00:44the green, a reminder that even the vastness of Khumrat Valley, beauty lies in the smallest details.
00:51I spotted this yellow-breasted greenfinch forging in the grass at Dujanga, and the
00:56glacier running water comes from the high mountains. With its banded mask and wingtips in gold,
01:02it looks like a jewel dropped by the forest. Proof that the wildest places hold the gentlest souls.
01:08This bird refers conifer forests, riverbanks, orchards, and high altitude areas. It is
01:14commonly spotted across Europe, Asia, and Pakistan, especially in cooler regions.
01:20This bird has a sharp, rapid, and cheerful call, a sound that lights up the forest.
01:26If you spot one, consider yourself lucky. They bring a splash of color to any landscape.
