00:00Sykesis warbler is a small slender bird that belongs to the family of old world warblers.
00:07These birds are known for their pale sandy brown or grayish brown upper parts and creamy
00:13white underparts which help them blend perfectly into their dry scrubby environments.
00:19They have a thin pointed beak designed for picking up tiny insects and if you look closely
00:26you might notice a faint male stripe just above their eyes giving them a curious and
00:33alert expression.
00:35These warblers are truly remarkable travelers.
00:38They spend their summer breeding in areas across like Central Asia, Southeast Asia but
00:45as the weather turns cold they fly long distance to spend the winter in warmer regions like
00:51India, Pakistan.
00:52They prefer living in low bushes, tamarids thickest and gardens where they can jump quickly
00:59from branch to branch in search of food.
01:02Because they are so active and constantly moving, they can be quite a challenge for bird watchers
01:09to spot among the leaves.
01:11What makes Sykesis warbler truly special is its voice, it has a lively rambling song that
01:18sounds like a mix of sweet whistles and clicking notes.
01:22During the breeding season males use these songs to defend their territory and attract a mate.
01:28Watching them in the wild is a wonderful experience as they bring a sense of energy and music to
01:35the quiet dusty landscapes they call home.
01:39These birds are incredibly lightweight usually weighing only about 9 to 11 grams which makes
01:45their long distance migration even more impressive.
01:49Their diet consists almost entirely of tiny insects, spiders and larvae.
01:54They use a technique called gleaning where they pick insects directly off the surface of leaves or
02:01twigs while hovering for a split second.
02:03They are most often found in tamarids trees and dry thorny bushes near water sources.
02:10Like many small warblers, they often migrate under the cover of night to avoid predators
02:15and the heat of the sun, using the stars and the earth's magnetic field to find their way.
02:22They usually build their nest very low to the ground, tucked away inside thick thorny scrubs
02:28to keep them safe from larger animals.
02:30A female bird usually lays 4 to 5 small eggs which are often a pale grayish or pinkish color
02:36with tiny brown spots.
