BFNL 2025 Hall of Fame: Matt Aston. Video by Luke West
Transcript
00:00He was a sensational winger, a half-back all-in, who gave his best every time, a top-jaw player and an even better bloke.
00:05And Jeff Mack described him as having a lasting impact on everyone associated with the Maryborough Football and Endball Club.
00:11So hearing those sort of words spoken about yourself from such a weird figures, how does that make you feel?
00:16Yeah, I'm proud. Jeff Mack is Maryborough royalty, basically.
00:22So, you know, coming through the ranks, he was always the dad of the group.
00:26Everyone is forward to be like him, the amount of work he put into the club, just a great fellow.
00:34And, yeah, great to call him a mate, too.
00:37So we'll catch up over Christmas down in the Port Ferry, hopefully.
00:41And Neville, I was just talking to Neville before and some of the things.
00:47Neville was the first coach, and we were just talking about this, that Ebbers sort of said,
00:52Oh, listen, I'm going to start you on the pitch, or I'm going to play you in a back popper, or I'm going to do this.
00:57And I'd be out there now, I'm bloody elbow, and I thought, this doesn't happen to me.
01:02You know, that type of attitude that the older I've got, I can understand what he was doing and things like that.
01:10And, yeah, so, when Neville come along, Maryborough were thereabouts, and we had our issues with on-field behaviour and stuff like that.
01:18And Neville come along and just finished us off nicely, brought a couple of players in, we got back the back, 98, 99.
01:27Yeah, so, a bit more professionalism there in Maryborough, which was great.
