00:00Or getting mad cow disease, what would it be?
00:04Of course I would choose to be the top scientist in my field.
00:08Oh good, I was worried you'd choose mad cow.
00:11Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most hilarious impersonations on Saturday Night Live
00:19that had players breaking character left and right.
00:22Your little things that go bambi, bambi, bambi, bambi, bambi.
00:25Oh, explode that.
00:30Number 20, Bowen Yang as Saja Boyz's Genu.
00:34I like K-pop Demon Hunters.
00:38Oh yeah, that's supposed to be really fun.
00:41Yeah, have you been watching it a bunch with your kids?
00:44I don't have kids.
00:46Given the ubiquity of K-pop Demon Hunters, an SNL skit based on the animated movie was a long time coming.
00:53It finally happened on the first episode of season 51, when Bad Bunny returned as a host.
00:58In the sketch, the famous rapper is joined by Mikey Day, Sarah Sherman, and Chloe Fineman,
01:04who play typical adults at brunch.
01:06The La Cancion singer's character, Thomas, brings up his love for K-pop Demon Hunters.
01:11The grown-ups can hardly take the film seriously,
01:14until Bowen Yang shows up as the movie's resident demon hottie, Genu.
01:19I'm talking about him.
01:21It's the demon Genu!
01:25Yes, it is I, Genu, leader of the Saja Boys.
01:29Whipping out his mic, he starts singing Soda Pop,
01:32and poor Chloe cannot keep a straight face.
01:35Even Mikey, who rarely drops the act, breaks into a smile.
01:38Well, clearly, that didn't do anything.
01:47Number 19, Chloe Fineman as Jojo Siwa.
01:51Oh my god, Jojo.
01:53That's who I call it, I'm a bad girl now.
01:58Back in 2024, when the Dance Moms star was reinventing her image from a bow-loving pop star for kids,
02:04to an eyeliner-wielding rebel, she was constantly in the headlines.
02:09Obviously, SNL picked up on this and sent Chloe Fineman to impersonate her on an episode of Weekend Update.
02:15The result is a hoot, with Chloe nailing Jojo's voice and animated gestures,
02:20playing up the wannabe bad girl act.
02:22Colin Jost, who isn't exactly known for being stone-faced, breaks easily.
02:27Does a former child star looking like this scare you?
02:31Uh, yeah, but not in the way you're hoping.
02:34However, when Chloe herself breaks,
02:37and the realization of the impression's ridiculousness dawns on her,
02:41it makes the skit even more hilarious.
02:50Number 18, Phil Hartman as Frankenstein's monster.
02:54Yeah, fireman!
02:58Okay, we have a difference of opinion, and I think that's what makes our forum work.
03:03During his Emmy-winning stint on SNL, this comedy legend was known as glue.
03:08His anchoring presence kept things from falling apart.
03:11That's why it was rare for him to break character.
03:14When it did happen during a Tonto, Tarzan, and Frankenstein's monster sketch,
03:19the moment became unforgettable.
03:21In the sketch, the titular characters are on a talk show called Succinctly Speaking,
03:26and must share their opinions on hot-button topics such as fire, bread,
03:31and the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty.
03:34Now, those are big words for Frankenstein's monster,
03:37ones he doesn't quite understand.
03:38Uh, at least that in the European theater.
03:44Fire, bread!
03:49So when Hartman's character has to dodge the question,
03:52his composure cracks, making everyone else break too.
03:56From Quest for Fire.
04:01Ah! Fire!
04:03This SNL great is a master of impressions.
04:19Since leaving the show in 1993, he has hosted it four times.
04:23Fans always look forward to his cameos as well.
04:26So when he returned to Studio 8-H in 2024 to impersonate Joe Biden,
04:31he worked his magic.
04:32Carvey's bumbling take on the former U.S. president
04:35had the cast struggling to stay in character.
04:38Maya Rudolph, who was playing Kamala Harris,
04:40all but broke into a giggle.
04:42Meanwhile, Chloe Fineman,
04:44who was playing CBS News journalist Margaret Brennan,
04:47was grinning ear to ear.
04:49Everybody get down!
04:52Tonight.
04:52Come on.
04:55Come on.
04:57Near the end of the skit,
04:58Carvey himself cracked up
05:00when his character made a mess with an ice cream cone.
05:03Pardon me.
05:03The vice president doesn't matter.
05:05Well.
05:06I mean, who the hell knows?
05:07Who the hell was Obama's VP?
05:10Nobody knows.
05:11Number 16.
05:13Eddie Murphy as Tracy Morgan.
05:15Oh, and look at this.
05:16Tracy Morgan.
05:17Big dog gonna make some big money.
05:19Both of these incredible actors became household names as cast members on SNL.
05:29When the show turned 50, they reunited for a Black Jeopardy sketch,
05:33where the Beverly Hills cop star impersonated Morgan right in front of him.
05:37His impersonation is effortless, larger than life,
05:40and just the right amount of cocky to be amusing, but not offensive.
05:44Every time he speaks, Kenan Thompson slips out of character just a little.
05:49However, when Leslie Jones breaks in the most obvious way,
05:52doubling over with laughter, Tracy inevitably follows.
05:56You're ready for your next act?
05:57Let me hear you say yeah!
05:58This is not that.
06:01This is not that.
06:02Needless to say, Murphy stole the show with this sketch.
06:06Tracy.
06:06What is Showtime at the Apollo?
06:10Featuring Sandman Sims?
06:13No.
06:14Come on, y'all really don't know?
06:16Number 15.
06:18Melissa Villasenor as Kristen Wiig.
06:20Hey.
06:22Hey, Mr. Hostman.
06:25Dumb.
06:26Why did I say that?
06:29The Oscar-nominated Bridesmaids actress has given us some of the most iconic
06:33celebrity impressions in the history of SNL.
06:36However, impersonating her is a feat only Melissa Villasenor is capable of.
06:40In 2021, she famously did her Kristen Wiig impersonation on Late Night with Seth Meyers,
06:46wowing the host.
06:47Oh, I do Kristen Wiig.
06:49Whoa!
06:50Whoa!
06:53I love to play Kristen.
06:57Months later, she did it again on SNL for a celeb school game show sketch.
07:01Not only did she nail Wiig's cadence, but even her mannerisms were instantly recognizable.
07:07Despite her limited screen time, Melissa made viewers laugh out loud.
07:11Her comments, most of which were directed at Kenan, kept throwing him off his act,
07:15which made the whole thing even funnier.
07:17I'm sorry, I was just being weird, sorry.
07:21I might do it again though, is that bad?
07:24Yes.
07:24Okay, Chris Hale.
07:27Number 14, Justin Timberlake as Jimmy Fallon.
07:30So great, so great, celebrities playing games.
07:33Nothing better, so fun.
07:34Am I right on that one?
07:38Hey, you need to calm down.
07:40Whenever these two get together on SNL, it's a blast.
07:44In season 39, Jimmy Fallon was hosting an episode of the show when Justin Timberlake was the musical guest,
07:49and they teamed up for a family feud sketch.
07:52Kenan played Steve Harvey, Jimmy was Jim Parsons, and Justin came as Fallon.
07:57From the moment his character is introduced, JT brings his A-game,
08:01embodying the enthusiastic talk show host to a T.
08:05It's not surprising when this makes Kenan break,
08:08but when Jimmy and Justin are face-to-face, trying not to crack up,
08:12that's the highlight of the skit.
08:15Okay, now.
08:19At one point, they even turn away from the camera,
08:24and all we see are their shoulders shaking from laughter.
08:28Seconds later, they got back into character.
08:30So great, my man.
08:33But Steve...
08:33Number 13, Will Ferrell as Harry Carey.
08:44Hey, Linda!
08:46What was it like inventing the space shuttle?
08:49Uh, I didn't invent the shuttle.
08:52Well, I wonder whoever did made a lot of money.
08:56The Anchorman star has impersonated the famous broadcaster several times on SNL,
09:01most popularly in his Space the Infinite Frontier series of sketches.
09:05In one such instance, he was joined by Jeff Goldblum,
09:09who played an astrophysicist being interviewed by Carey.
09:12The Jurassic Park actor gets so baffled by some of Ferrell's bits,
09:16he inevitably breaks character.
09:17We all know that the moon is not made of green cheese.
09:23Yes, that's true, Harry.
09:24But what if it were made of barbecue spare ribs?
09:28Would you eat it then?
09:30What?
09:31In another installment, Will's Harry is joined by Joan Allen,
09:34who plays former NASA flight director Linda Hamm.
09:38The Oscar-nominated actress starts out strong,
09:40but can hardly stay in character,
09:42as Ferrell's act gets more and more eccentric.
09:45We can't blame her, though.
09:46Few can keep a straight face in front of Will Ferrell.
09:49The Viet Cong knew that.
09:52That's why they use sleep deprivation as a form of torture.
10:01Number 12.
10:02Billy Crystal as Fernando Llamas
10:04Oh my God.
10:07You see this?
10:07Look at this.
10:08This looks like Dorothy L'Amour from behind.
10:11On the way to the commissary, I'll tell you that.
10:14It's marvelous.
10:15The multi-Emy-winning actor's impression
10:17of the Argentine-American superstar
10:18was one of his signature acts on SNL.
10:21The Fernando's Hideaway sketches,
10:23where Billy Crystal's version of Fernando Llamas
10:25hosts a talk show,
10:27were particularly riotous.
10:29So when pro wrestlers Hulk Hogan and Mr. T
10:32hosted SNL in season 10,
10:34they had to stop by Fernando's Hideaway.
10:36Unsurprisingly,
10:37the legendary comedian gets them good,
10:39making them break hard.
10:41I was at a Hollywood party with this person or dirt,
10:44if you know what I'm saying to you.
10:46How?
10:48When the two just can't compose themselves,
10:53Billy improvises the most hilarious jokes
10:55in character to keep them laughing.
10:57Before you know it,
10:58he has brought the skit back on track.
11:00If that isn't proof of a genius performer,
11:03we don't know what is.
11:04Do they have names,
11:06or what do you do with this guy?
11:08I'll take it.
11:14Number 11,
11:15Kate McKinnon,
11:16Maya Rudolph,
11:17Bowen Yang,
11:17and Kristen Wiig as ABBA.
11:19You can't just put these four comedy icons in a sketch
11:33and not expect any of them to break.
11:35The quartet came together for the ABBA Christmas commercial
11:37during Kate McKinnon's turn as host of SNL in 2023.
11:41At first,
11:42they look fairly normal,
11:43but as the skit goes on,
11:45things get exceedingly chaotic
11:46until it's borderline caricature-ish,
11:49but still endearing.
11:50I'm the girl,
11:51you're feeling bad.
11:53I'm 17.
11:55I don't have a boyfriend.
11:57You are so big,
11:59you're smart as me.
12:00Halfway through the act,
12:02the cast members seemed as eager
12:03to make each other laugh
12:05as they were to get the audience's approval.
12:07Kate was making Kristen break,
12:09Maya's expressions had Bowen struggling
12:11to stay in character,
12:12and everyone was a giddy mess by the end,
12:15even James Austin Johnson.
12:17This is exactly how we like our SNL.
12:19Number 10.
12:31Kenan Thompson as Victor Willis
12:33from The Village People.
12:35The Village People were one of several artists
12:37who hit Trump with a cease and desist
12:39after he used their music at his rallies.
12:42Yeah, I'm talking to you.
12:44I said stop it.
12:46This is long overdue
12:48cause we never said that we support you.
12:52So, led by Kenan Thompson as Victor Willis,
12:55the group shows up on Weekend Update to vent.
12:58They start off lighthearted,
13:00reclaiming their song,
13:01but then things take a dark turn,
13:03leaving Colin Jost to jump in
13:05to try to keep things from totally derailing.
13:08Yet, he can't hide his laughter.
13:10Hey, hold on.
13:11Hold on.
13:12You can't just say that.
13:15What?
13:16I mean, why?
13:18It's just music, man.
13:20We just singing.
13:21You can spot Michael Che cracking up in the background too.
13:25Though Colin's interruptions seem planned,
13:27it feels like he and Che might not have seen
13:30the latest version of the, um, updated lyrics.
13:34Wait, you're saying you're gonna shave Ivanka's head?
13:38You can't just say that.
13:39That's gotta be like a felony.
13:41Hey, man, everything is legal if you sing it in a song.
13:45That's not true.
13:48Number 9.
13:49Jimmy Fallon as Mick Jagger
13:50It takes a good sense of humor to sit across from a comedian
13:54and watch yourself get lovingly roasted.
13:57Mick Jagger proved he was game
13:58when he showed up as himself opposite Jimmy Fallon,
14:01who was playing his reflection.
14:07Pointing fingers is what's going on now.
14:09Pointing fingers is what I'm doing now.
14:11Pointing fingers is today.
14:12Oh, no.
14:13Stale.
14:14I meant, I meant stale like great.
14:16Fallon's version of Jagger is definitely more exaggerated
14:19and over the top.
14:21In fact, it crossed the border into caricature
14:23from pretty much the first moment.
14:26And you can see Jagger struggling not to break character.
14:29You're yelling at yourself.
14:30You're yelling at yourself.
14:31Stop it.
14:32Now look.
14:36Just don't do what you've done.
14:39But Fallon's ridiculous portrayal gets to him.
14:42And there are moments where he can't help but crack a huge grin.
14:46Honestly, we're surprised Fallon's Jagger
14:48didn't think it was worth pointing, pointing, pointing it out.
14:51And I'll point by my finger.
14:56And point it, point it, point it, point it at you.
15:02Number eight, Leslie Jones as Samuel L. Jackson.
15:06In the Super Bowl edition of Family Feud,
15:08Leslie Jones plays Jackson,
15:10a Falcons fan with some strong feelings about party etiquette.
15:14It's about time we got these mother-flippin' Falcons
15:18in the mother-flippin' Super Bowl.
15:22When asked what one might bring to a Super Bowl party,
15:25this Jackson shares his thoughts on the subject.
15:28After her emphatic delivery,
15:30Thompson, as Steve Harvey,
15:32just stares as if he's trying to suppress his laughter.
15:35Something that you bring to a party.
15:37Why do I gotta bring something?
15:39You invited me, that's a stupid-ass question,
15:43and I hope you burn in hell!
15:46Meanwhile, McKinnon seemingly tries to turn her reaction
15:50into a quirky character trait,
15:52but Leslie just laughs.
15:54All we can say is,
15:55if Jackson's coming to your party,
15:57don't expect him to bring anything but himself.
15:59And you'd better thank him for it, too.
16:01Uh, look here.
16:05I don't know who brought you up in here,
16:07but I'm watching you.
16:11Number 7.
16:12Kenan Thompson as David Big Poppy Ortiz
16:15Kenan has given us so many classic characters on SNL,
16:19and his take on David Big Poppy Ortiz
16:21created an instant legend.
16:23I don't come vegetality.
16:25Teach out on the big state.
16:27Thompson goes hard,
16:37featuring Big Poppy's wild enthusiasm for everything,
16:41from his out-there endorsements
16:43to his deep love for a big lunch.
16:45The more Kenan amps it up,
16:47the harder Jost struggles to hold back his laughter.
16:50And then we all have a big lunch.
16:53Wait, hold on.
16:53None of that was lunch?
16:55Big lunch.
16:55This is especially evident
16:57during the post-retirement plan segment,
17:00where we find Big Poppy living his best life
17:02in the most over-the-top ways.
17:04At one point,
17:05Thompson even makes himself chuckle
17:07as if the absurdity of it all
17:09had suddenly hit him.
17:10It's big laughs all around.
17:13Hey!
17:13Hey!
17:14Dude!
17:17Did you like SeaWorld?
17:19You like SeaWorld?
17:20Yeah.
17:21Not really.
17:22I got something better.
17:23Okay.
17:24B-World.
17:26Number 6.
17:27Ariana Grande,
17:28Chloe Fineman,
17:29and Dana Carvey
17:30as Jennifer Coolidge.
17:32Ariana Grande is an incredible mimic.
17:35So now,
17:36whenever she's on SNL,
17:37fans are always keen for her
17:38to pull out her impressive impressions.
17:41And boy,
17:41did she deliver
17:42with her spot-on portrayal
17:44of Jennifer Coolidge.
17:45Now give me one.
17:50If you could meet anyone
17:52living or dead,
17:52who would it be?
17:55Living.
17:58Teaming up with Chloe Fineman,
17:59she stars in a hilarious commercial
18:01for lip gloss
18:02that's so ridiculous,
18:03it's impossible for anyone
18:05to keep a straight face.
18:06Grande loses it up first,
18:08and it doesn't take long
18:10for Fineman to break too.
18:11Oh, yeah.
18:12A little more.
18:13A little more.
18:14Oh, gosh.
18:15It's so...
18:16Oh, it tastes like soap.
18:18Doesn't it?
18:19Oh, yeah.
18:20Oh, gosh.
18:21All better.
18:22By the time Dana Carvey joins in,
18:24Grande has basically given up
18:26on hiding her laughter.
18:27Honestly,
18:28only a surprise appearance
18:29from the real Coolidge
18:30could have made this skit
18:31even better.
18:32All thanks to Maybelline
18:35lip-lasting
18:36long lip color,
18:37ultimate plumber,
18:39gloss color,
18:40liquid lip color,
18:42and Maybelline.
18:43Wow.
18:47Number five.
18:48Kenan Thompson
18:49as LeVar Ball.
18:50Another of Thompson's
18:52more eccentric characters
18:53is LeVar Ball,
18:54the CEO of Big Baller Brand.
18:57He's just keeping that seat warm
18:59on that Laker bench
19:00until my other sons get there.
19:01LeAngelo,
19:03LeMelo,
19:03and my long-lost Mexican son,
19:06LeBiblioteca.
19:07If you thought Big Poppy
19:08was intense,
19:09just wait until you meet this guy.
19:11He's like the Duracell bunny
19:12if it was glitching.
19:14We bet Che is often glad
19:15to be off-camera
19:16during some of the more
19:17bizarre moments,
19:18though we can still often
19:20hear him chuckling.
19:21You can jump 30 feet in the air
19:23while your feet are covered
19:24in sweet
19:25coco-deca-daca-daca-sons.
19:28But that's not all.
19:31What's the matter?
19:31Keenan does an incredible job
19:35cranking up the character's
19:36personality to the max,
19:38making it impressive
19:39that Che can keep it together
19:41at all,
19:42especially when Ball shows off
19:43his latest footwear investments.
19:45You know it's a big Baller impression
19:47when even the cast
19:48can't hold back their laughter.
19:49And the best
19:51Rota-Sari ticket
19:53by the Lula Jell-O Twenties.
19:57Oh, it's ready, Michael.
19:59Oh, there you go.
20:02Number 4.
20:03Jimmy Fallon
20:03as Barry Gibb.
20:04Jimmy Fallon was notorious
20:06for breaking character
20:07during his SNL run,
20:09but in this recurring bit,
20:10he's the one doing the breaking.
20:12He plays Barry Gibb
20:13of the Bee Gees
20:14as an angry, erratic man
20:16who switches into falsetto
20:17at the drop of a hat.
20:19Don't you patronize me!
20:20I am Barry!
20:21Yeah!
20:23I'm gonna take out
20:24my booing life
20:25and gut you like a fish!
20:28Justin Timberlake
20:29plays his brother Robin,
20:30who speaks in short,
20:32deadpan sentences.
20:33The sketch is filled
20:34with hilarious moments,
20:36and it's clear
20:36Timberlake thinks so, too.
20:38I grew up
20:39on the streets of Sydney,
20:40and no matter where I am
20:42in the studio,
20:43I never more
20:44than five seconds
20:45away from a guy.
20:47As Fallon's performance
20:48gets more unhinged,
20:50it becomes tougher
20:51for him to keep his cool.
20:53Honestly,
20:53watching him try
20:54not to break
20:55is just as entertaining
20:56as the skit itself.
20:58We loved seeing
20:58this classic return
21:00for season 49,
21:01and nothing had changed.
21:04We are...
21:05We are...
21:08We are...
21:08We are...
21:09We are from Australia!
21:12Number 3.
21:13Kate McKinnon
21:13as Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
21:15Kate McKinnon
21:16could break her castmates
21:17like no one else
21:18on SNL,
21:19because she threw herself
21:20fully into every character.
21:22You know how Aquaman
21:23can summon fish?
21:25I can do the same
21:26with rescued pit bulls.
21:28Arr!
21:29Arr!
21:30Arr!
21:30Arr!
21:30All right, all right.
21:32Her Billie Jean King
21:33had Seth Meyers
21:34losing it multiple times
21:35on Weekend Update,
21:37and don't even get us
21:37started on her Rudy Giuliani,
21:39especially when she
21:40tackled Trump's
21:41election claims.
21:43Also, we're suing
21:44all the states
21:45to be lost.
21:46You're suing
21:46all the states
21:47for what?
21:48I don't know,
21:48child support.
21:50Jost keeps cracking up,
21:52and even McKinnon
21:53looked like she might
21:53break a few times.
21:55But the best might be
21:56her Ruth Bader Ginsburg
21:57impression.
21:58It's good.
21:59Oh, it's good.
22:01You're good there?
22:01You're supposed to put it
22:02in water for Ginsburg.
22:03Yeah, I know.
22:05Yeah.
22:05Yeah.
22:06He got a little
22:06kind of all over there.
22:08Oh, dear.
22:08Yeah, all right.
22:10McKinnon brought such
22:11an unhinged energy
22:12to that role.
22:13She couldn't have had
22:14an easier time
22:15breaking Colin,
22:16and even herself.
22:18Her physical comedy
22:18is incredible.
22:20It's no wonder
22:20everyone around her
22:21can't keep a straight face.
22:23There's no limit
22:36to how many times
22:37we can watch this impression
22:38and still laugh
22:39as hard as the first time.
22:40Cecily plays the role
22:41of the former judge
22:42and TV host
22:43Janine Pirro
22:44to perfection.
22:45But I don't know
22:46if you heard,
22:47Trump did say
22:47he's hoping to launch
22:48an investigation
22:49into both Obama
22:50and Hillary Clinton.
22:51What?
22:57From her outlandish claims
22:59to her booming voice,
23:01that sounds like
23:01someone turned up
23:02the volume to Max
23:03and broke the dial.
23:05This sketch was never
23:06going to go as planned.
23:07But it's Pirro's love
23:08for a drink
23:09that really gets to Colin,
23:10though we can't imagine why.
23:12And I'm going to hold
23:13your arm for this part.
23:14By ignoring the subpoenas,
23:16Trump might actually
23:17give Democrats
23:17more reason to impeach.
23:19What?
23:21You are out!
23:22No!
23:23No!
23:24Cecily always keeps
23:25this recurring gag fresh,
23:27so he never knows
23:28quite what's coming.
23:29Also, singing in a crate
23:30of wine is just iconic.
23:32Honestly,
23:33we could never keep it together
23:34half as well as they do.
23:36I thought you were
23:38when there was doubt.
23:42I needed a
23:44and spit it out!

24:03Number 1.
24:04Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day
24:06as Beavis and Butthead.
24:08You know a sketch
24:09is hilarious
24:09whenever Heidi Gardner,
24:11who basically never breaks,
24:13can't hold it together.
24:14She starts strong,
24:15but the second she sees
24:16Ryan Gosling
24:17dressed as a Beavis lookalike,
24:19she completely loses it.
24:21Can you move the seats?
24:22Uh, okay.
24:24Sure, I'm sorry.
24:25I just,
24:25I've never heard
24:27of that cartoon character.
24:29Ever the pro,
24:30she pulls herself back
24:31until she catches sight
24:33of Mikey Day
24:33as Butthead's double.
24:35And that's it.
24:37Gardner's laughing fit
24:38eventually takes
24:39everyone else down too.
24:40Maybe it's this
24:41Beavis person,
24:43I don't know.
24:43I don't watch much television.
24:45I have an incredibly busy life.
24:48Yeah, I'm very busy too.
24:50The premise is so simple
24:51and goofy
24:52that it seems destined
24:53to fall apart
24:54from the original plan.
24:56Watching the cast
24:56collapse into giggles
24:58only makes the sketch better.
25:00And come on,
25:01we're all a little shocked
25:02that Gosling
25:02wasn't the first one to go.
25:04You don't know each other?
25:06No.
25:06No.
25:07Um,
25:08hi, I'm Dean.
25:10I'm Dean.
25:11Yeah, nice to meet you.
25:12Nice to meet you too.
25:13Should a good impression
25:14be accurate or funny?
