00:00It's best to use all of life, leave death nothing but the dregs, nothing but a burnt out castle.
00:11And Chadwick was a castle. Chadwick was a mighty, mighty elixir that sort of stirred up that alchemy that we're all in search of,
00:27which is meaning. I celebrate him today. And I say to him, I hope all the angels in heaven just sang him to a beautiful rest.
00:48And I thank him for what he left behind in me, which is a burning amber that always guides me to a higher meaning of my work and my purpose.
01:07This star, as beautiful as it is on the Walk of Fame, shines a whole lot less brighter than Chadwick is in heaven.
01:24And I would like to share a few words from the man himself.
01:28Chadwick Boseman's instructions for creative work.
01:33Write the vision and make it plain.
01:37Keep that word fastened in your journal and shut it in your bolted drawer until the appointed time.
01:43Let the ideas, the visions that God gives you, fester inside of you.
01:48Let the word that he has put inside of you bubble over.
01:52Do not speak it to another until the time appointed by God.
01:56The secrecy of the vision is the second stone laid in the building process.
02:01It is the project's fortress.
02:04For a word spoken too early on the ears of men is a bulldozer and a stumbling block.
02:11Forget the self that entered the process and be made into a new creature through the work.
02:19Chad, it was our honor to watch you transform and our honor to be transformed by you.
02:26We love you so much.
02:31So on behalf, on behalf of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce,
02:36it gives me great honor and pleasure to declare today Chadwick Boseman Day in Hollywood.
02:44But today, I want to say rest in power, Chadwick Boseman.
02:55And I know that you can hear us and you can feel us.
02:58And I want to say congratulations on this achievement.
03:01And on behalf of the City of Los Angeles, to celebrate the work of Chadwick Boseman
03:06and the inclusion of the Hollywood Walk of Fame,
03:08I want to present this resolution on behalf of the City of Los Angeles
03:12and to recognize all the work that he did for the City of Angels.
03:16I don't know if I can.
03:33I want to ask you guys, bear with me a bit.
03:37I never had to speak about Chadwick directly since his passion.
03:55So I'm going to do my best.
04:05Right on.
04:08I'm good. I'm good. Just struggling a bit.
04:13When I think of Chadwick Boseman, I think of three things.
04:27Leadership, teaching, and generosity.
04:35He was an incredible leader.
04:38He was fearless, infirm, yet gentle in his leadership.
04:44Chadwick was ageless.
04:48I never really knew how old he was until I went to one of his birthday parties.
04:55He had this incredible youthful look to him.
05:01But being around him, I always got the sense that I was around someone incredibly old.
05:07And I'm not talking baby boomer or silent generation.
05:13Chad felt thousands of years old.
05:16He was that calm and that wise.
05:19It was a very unnerving feeling to be around him.
05:22Our first time together, we were completely alone.
05:25And he somehow snuck into a hotel room I was in during a massive press tour for Creed.
05:33Sylvester Stallone was there.
05:35The great Michael B. Jordan was there.
05:36The great Texas Thompson was there.
05:37It was crawling with press.
05:40But he got by all of them for us to have a one-on-one meeting to talk about working together on Black Panther.
05:48And I was so impressed by that.
05:49I asked him how he got past everybody.
05:51And he smiled at me and said, that was the Panther.
05:57On behalf of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, we are honored and humbled to present the 2,828 star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Chadwick Boseman.
06:07Unle done to put up a young stand, we are honored so we can see these lightingemen welcome below.
