Trump says Ukraine's Zelenskyy will have to approve US-backed peace plan  Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will have to like a US-backed peace plan to halt Russia's invasion and ultimately approve it, US President Donald Trump told reporters on Nov. 21, 2025. Trump, speaking in the Oval Office after a meeting with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, repeated that he had expected to resolve the war much sooner given his good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding, 'It does take two to tango.' Trump said the approaching winter, the mounting death toll and repeated attacks on Ukrainian energy plants underscored the urgency of ending the war. 00:22put it nicely yeah we have a way of getting peace or we think we have a way

00:29of getting peace he's gonna have to approve it just so sad so many people

00:34you know last month they lost 25,000 soldiers this is something we haven't

00:39seen anything like this is the second world war and they're averaging six or

00:43seven thousand a week between the two of them dead soldiers and it goes on and on

00:49and I think they're getting reasonably close but it's I don't want to predict I

00:55would have said that would have been one of my early ones I did eight peace

00:59deals of countries including in India Pakistan you could even go in fact

01:05they're coming here in a week or two go to the Congo and Rwanda that was one 10

01:10million people dead and we worked something out on that but so many and

01:14the one I thought would have been for me because I have a very good

01:18relationship with President Putin I thought that would have been maybe

01:20quicker but it's it does take two to tango and now you just see all the death

01:27and you know it doesn't affect us other than the fact that we don't want to see

01:32all those people that really it's on the other side of the ocean that's a war

01:35that should have never happened it did happen I blame the person also sitting

01:40right behind this desk this is a war that should have never happened and it

01:44wouldn't have happened if I were president but we're trying to save a lot

01:47of lives they're losing they're losing 25 think of that 25,000 lives over the

01:53last short period of time that's Ukrainian and Russian and it's a shame

01:59I wanted to ask you also about this Ukraine plan yeah President Zelensky

02:06said today that his country would risk either giving up a partner or giving up

02:10its dignity there's been criticism that this deal you mean he doesn't like it

02:14it's unclear he was sort of he'll have to like it and if he doesn't like it then

02:19you know they should just keep fighting I guess you know

02:22your suggestion that you made though was that if he doesn't accept it that the

02:26US would pull back its support for Ukraine well at some point he's gonna

02:29have to accept something you know he hasn't accepted you remember right in

02:32the Oval Office not so long ago I said you don't have the cards don't forget I

02:39inherited this war I would have never this war never would have happened I

02:43inherited this war and I thought he should have made a deal a year ago two

02:49years ago the ultimate deal would have been if it never started that would have

02:52been a good deal that could have been done too if you had the right president

02:55but you didn't have the right president
