00:00And after a disappointing end to the international break for Nigerians, it is now time to switch
00:05attentions to the festive action which promises a lot of thrills and that starts with Arsenal
00:11entertaining Tottenham Hotspur right at the Emirates Stadium to get things going. This is
00:17the preview of that game. My name is Ayomide Daniels. I bid you welcome to the Nutmeg.
00:22And you're welcome to the Nutmeg after what was a disappointing end to the international
00:33break. I'm here with Kay and we quickly take your reaction to how things paned out for the
00:39Super Eagles of Nigeria. Now, eight year stretch, two World Cups and no appearances for the Super
00:45Eagles at the Mundial. Shameful in one word for me, you know, total embarrassment. And
00:50by now we should be having a lot of resignation flying, you know, from the glass house because
00:54it's becoming something that I feel like people in charge of the football administration and
01:01not just football alone, sports in general, the NFF and even the sports commission, you
01:05know, it's just I don't know what to say. I feel so, so, so embarrassed, you know, embarrassed
01:11to be to be associated, you know, with this kind of administration, you know. But what do
01:17we do now, we just have to go from here. Eight years is, it's, it's, it's a long one. And
01:22then 2030, majority of these players will be here. You'll be in their 30s. In 30s. Many
01:28of them, this is the last chance. And unfortunately, they missed it. You know, I'm just so sad for
01:32the likes of people who were putting the energy, you know, you could, you could see, you know,
01:36for the likes of Osime, you know, Bassey and the likes and Benjamin Fredericks. These are the three
01:42guys I could really say that, you know, they really gave their all. But obviously, the rest,
01:46we're just, you know, it is what it is, but we just have to move on. Let's talk about that.
01:49Let's talk about what will give you more joy. Yeah, exactly. Thank you. I love that. And that's
01:55now we know they are sitting at the top. But to start with a couple of injury concerns and how
02:01that could potentially affect their title ambitions, you know, that's been the story
02:05for us now. Yeah. You just want to hope that with Gabriel Magalhães missing is, is a very,
02:12I think for me, and I'll say this here. Yeah. Authoritatively, I don't care what anybody
02:16thinks. For me, I'm not an Arsenal fan. I'm not an apologetic towards Arsenal, but I personally
02:24feel Gabriel Magalhães currently is the best defender in the world. No, no, no. I don't,
02:30I don't, I don't, I don't think there's anybody that should be disputing that. Yes, I think the
02:33truth is a truth, you know. So if you have that kind of player to be missing in this very important
02:39phase, the defensive period, I'm beginning to wonder if any of the players in Arsenal's ranks
02:45can replace his level of impact. Yeah. Not just in terms of scoring goals from set
02:50pieces and what have you been a menace. Yeah. But also the defensive stability leadership
02:56that he offers at the back to, and Aldo has not begun to replace that. Yeah. If eventually,
03:01uh, Magalhães, you know, will not be in that match, of course, a major blow for us. And like
03:06you mentioned, he's been the, the, the focal point of the defense. Many people feel it's Saliba,
03:12but believe you me, Gabriel is actually the hanker there. Yes. Because I've noticed that anytime you
03:17didn't have Gabriel, you know, peering with Saliba, Saliba is kind of shaky sometimes. And, uh,
03:23it's just a true, but as it, as it stands, I want to believe that, uh, Arsenal with, uh, the record
03:28in the last five years, since 2023, there about, you know, we've had the edge. The only win, uh,
03:33Totem had against Arsenal is the international friendly, you know, before the commencement of
03:40the season. So I, I, I still want to believe that the guys are able to do it. We still have the likes
03:45of, uh, you know, Ben White and Kapi, you know, that could step up and even Mosquera, an excellent,
03:49you know, thank God that, uh, uh, Ateta actually made that signing. What an excellent season he's
03:53been having, you know, anytime he has to come. So I'm still very much, I'm confident that
03:56Arsenal will make this one. But now they are coming up against, uh, Thomas Frank and Tottenham
04:01Mountsport, who are maybe not the best football side, but have been, the problem to be decent
04:07enough to get enough points to be in the top half. Yeah. And you want to believe that they could
04:12also make it into European football, which I think is their focus. Yeah. So it's going to be a tough
04:16challenge. Obviously history favors Arsenal in this fixture, but what is the guarantee that no
04:22matter what Tottenham throws at Arsenal, Arsenal can also still get the better of them. Don't
04:28forget before the international break, they gave Manchester United a lot to think about,
04:33especially in the second half. So they'll come into this one with a level of belief that they
04:37could do it again, this time away from home. Yeah. Well, uh, you know, look, gone are the days that
04:44we have the likes of Harry Kane, you know, in the ranks of Tottenham, you know, then I know very
04:48well that when you have Harry Kane, you know, he's going to score. He's a man against Arsenal,
04:52you know, he's the highest good scorer in this, uh, Debbie, not London Debbie, but fine.
04:56It's not. So you're happy. I'm so happy, you know, when he made the move to Bayern.
05:00So yeah, as a stance, I don't really think that they have the, you know, the danger man,
05:05per se, but as a team, like you said, they could offset you anytime. But then I feel like, uh,
05:10Mikel Ateta's Arsenal this season and even in season's part, he's been able to, uh, you know,
05:15breed a kind of a mentality in the players that look, this is not London. We, we don't, we do this
05:20not London forever, whatever. It is a street, you know, we own the street of, of not London.
05:25So no, for real, for real. And like you mentioned that against Manchester United,
05:30I cannot compare the team of Manchester United to Arsenal. I'm not trying to throw sheets,
05:34you know, it's just the truth. You know, Manchester United team, they are coming up. I'm,
05:38I'm happy for you guys. Who are you guys? Later we'll talk about it.
05:41Behind the scenes. So I'm happy that, you know, they are trying to come up. But at the same time,
05:46I still think, uh, the, the Arsenal team is still a, you know, a, a, a level higher than the,
05:50the current Manchester. So I believe Arsenal will carry it in no matter what Tottenham draw us.
05:54No, they are very interesting games coming up for Arsenal as well.
05:57In the Champions League, Chelsea also is lining up to face them in a couple of weeks' time.
06:05And I'm looking at Arsenal season, and honestly, this is not any agenda.
06:10Yeah.
06:10Yeah.
06:10You, it's just worth talking about.
06:12Okay.
06:13If they, Calafiore and Gabriel Magalhães now are out.
06:18Not, not totally.
06:20Maybe it's not confirmed, but at least you don't expect them to be playing against either of Spurs or Bayern.
06:25You never can tell.
06:26Okay. But then what I'm saying in essence is, look, will there be any level of excuse?
06:34I know we've discussed this before, but will there be any level of excuse tolerable
06:39in the case of Mikel Arteta, if for whatever reason, Arsenal does not win this title? Because
06:45I'm looking at Manchester City now, and Man City, through Erling Haaland's influence as well,
06:52Man City are looking apart.
06:54They're coming up, yeah.
06:55And they are trying, and you know City, City would gradually build and grow into the season.
06:59Yeah.
07:00And then when they are at full throttle, you cannot stop them.
07:04So they are becoming a threat that we didn't expect, because we thought it was going to be
07:09Liverpool with the amount of signings that they made. But now, what level of excuse,
07:15in fact, is there any level of excuse that would be tolerable in Arteta's case,
07:19if somehow Arsenal fail to do the needful, win the Premier League?
07:25Okay, I'm going to be saying this both as an analyst and also as a fan. The truth is, for Arteta,
07:32it is a make or break. The reason why I say this is because he's been there for five years.
07:36And you can argue that he has everything he needs.
07:37Yeah, sure. In the last couple of years, you know, the Kroenke's families have really been
07:41back, you know, helpful and all that. But what I want to also say is that,
07:45I think it's still so too early for us to be pushing the title.
07:48After 11 games, we play more than a quarter.
07:50Yeah, it's still too early. The reason why I'm saying that is because, fine, like you said,
07:53we still have quite a number of teams that might even, you know, surprise us along the way.
07:58Liverpool were the, oh, these guys were, but, you know, just in the space of a month,
08:02October and, you know, they were flat.
08:04But don't you think a quarter of the season is a dissent?
08:06No, it is. It is. We're beginning to see the data.
08:11And in the last game, I'm just a bit concerned. I know Arsenal will not win all games.
08:16Of course.
08:17Against Sunderland, there were some cracks.
08:18Yeah, of course. The goal we considered, I would blame,
08:23what's his name, Ryan.
08:25The goal is embarrassing for me. You should take that.
08:28But it's a miscalculation. That is gone.
08:29And also, Sunderland have a good home record.
08:32That's one of the things that also counted in that game.
08:34And they are breathing with confidence as well.
08:36We know that.
08:36That's confident that Sunderland came from?
08:38From, from championship.
08:40The championship.
08:40I'm telling you, these guys, that's why English football is up there.
08:43Because no one, you just cannot tell how it goes.
08:46But some matches, like the North London debut in recent times,
08:49I'm so confident we're going to win.
08:50So I know you will say Arsenal win, but by what margin?
08:52Oh, it's not going to be in Sunderland. Maybe 2-1 or 1-0.
08:57We'll see how it goes.
08:58And let's know in the comment section what you think the scoreline will be
09:02between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
09:04Get ready for a lot of coverage as we build up into the festive season.
09:09Definitely, lots of action to prepare for and talk about.
09:13Yeah, on the Nutmeg.
09:14Even as the AFCON will come and the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be in that one.
09:18Most certainly, we'll be looking forward to what Eric Chell can do
09:22in terms of leading his team into, of course, the continental action
09:26that all eyes will switch to come December the 21st.
09:30Thank you for watching the Nutmeg and, of course, this edition of the show.
