00:15The scam began when she was contacted by a scammer claiming to be Pitt's mother who
00:19told me that her son needed someone like me. Her communication lasted more than a year.
00:24Anne explained on a French television network,
00:26At first, I said to myself that it was fake, that it's ridiculous, but I'm not used to social media,
00:31and I didn't really understand what was happening to me. Using AI technology to emulate the once-upon-a-time
00:36in Hollywood actor, the scammer sent personalized photos and messages to the woman, leading her
00:41to believe the hoax. They later coerced her into sending over nearly $1 million for a kidney
00:46treatment. They pretended that Pitt was unable to access his bank accounts due to his high-profile
00:51divorce from Angelina Jolie. Since the Sunday segment aired, the story has gone viral, igniting
00:57a plethora of cyberbullying toward the victim, leading the French network TF1, who aired the
01:02segment to withdraw the broadcast from its platforms. For more updates to this story, head to THR.com.
