Thailand's foreign minister hopes EU will help bring balance of powers to ASEAN region

Thailand’s Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow told Euronews on the sideline of an indo-pacific region meeting in Brussels that the EU’s presence in the ASEAN region could help as a balance of powers between the US and China.

00:12the EU's presence in the Asian region brings a balance of powers between the US and China.
00:19We're also concerned right now with the policies of tariffs and protectionism on the part of the United States.
00:29We think that this does not help the multilateral trading system.
00:35But with the EU, we want to see the EU more engaged in the region economically, politically, also in terms of security,
00:46because it helps to balance out the balance of power in the region.
00:53The minister added that Thailand is in the process of transitioning into a more digitalised and greener economy,
01:01areas that he thinks the EU has a lot to offer Thailand and other Asian countries.
