00:00In the meantime, the recommendation to officially appoint Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartates Jr.

00:06as Philippine National Police, or PNP's, chief was submitted to President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr.

00:13To recall, Nartates was appointed acting chief after former PNP Chief General Nicolás Torre III was axed

00:19due to alleged friction with the National Police Commission, or NAPLCOM.

00:24According to Senate President Pro Temporary Panfilolaxon,

00:27the matter of rank is irrelevant in becoming the PNP chief,

00:31citing he also didn't immediately become a four-star general upon assuming the said position.
