00:00An Indian Tejas fighter jet crashed in a fireball during a low-altitude display at the Dubai Air
00:14Show on Friday, killing its pilot. A witness said the jet had been flying low at about 2.15
00:20p.m. local time before it went down. The crash occurred on the final day of the Middle East's
00:26largest aviation event, which began on Monday. The Indian Air Force 1AF said a court of inquiry
00:33will be convened to determine the cause. The homegrown Tejas, its name meaning
00:38brilliance in Sanskrit, is central to India's push to modernize an air force still dominated by Russian
00:44and Soviet-era jets. First developed in 2001 to replace the MiG-21s, the IAF plans to field nearly
00:52220 Tejas fighters, including the MK-1A variant, over the next decade.
