00:01Here's a summary of what unfolded in this year's Arizona Fall League.
00:05To put it simply, Kevin McGonigal left absolutely no doubt that he was the best prospect there this season.
00:11He's ranked second on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 Prospects list,
00:15and this Tigers infielder solidified his reputation as the best pure hitter in the entire minor leagues
00:21on his way to winning the Most Valuable Player award.
00:24Now, it's important to note that this developmental circuit featured fewer Top 100 prospects
00:29than we usually see.
00:31Only eight qualified for the annual ranking of Fall League top talent.
00:35Three others didn't play enough to make the list.
00:38For instance, Dodgers outfielder Josue DePaula, MLB No. 13, arrived with a hamstring injury and never played a game.
00:45Rangers shortstop Sebastian Walcott, MLB No. 6, was shut down after just one game due to shoulder fatigue,
00:52and Reds right-hander Rhett Lauder, MLB No. 80, pitched only nine innings after missing most of the regular season.
00:58Even with that, the AFL still showcased plenty of future big leaguers.
01:03The quality of the pitching prospects was actually better than it has been in recent years,
01:07though the league was still much more favorable to hitters, with teams averaging 6.13 runs per game.
01:13As always, these rankings are based more on a player's long-term value than just their Fall League performance,
01:20though both factors were considered.
01:21We also gathered opinions from scouts, who were there to evaluate the players.
01:26Here is the list, starting with the top prospect, 1, Kevin McGonigal, 3BSS, Scottsdale, DET, No. 1, MLB No. 2.
01:36He was compared to Chase Utley, his favorite player growing up, and a lefty-hitting version of Alex Bregman.
01:42His performance was stellar.
01:43He batted, 3-6-2, 500 dollars, 7-10, led the league in extra base hits, 12, and total bases, 49, ranked second in homers, 5, and runs, 22,
01:55and was third in slugging in OPS, 1.2-10.
01:59He's known for consistently having quality at-bats and barreling the ball, projecting to be a 25 home run, 25 stolen base player,
02:07who might fit best at second base, 2, Braden Montgomery, O.F., Glendale, CWS No. 1, MLB No. 35.
02:19Montgomery fits the classic right-field profile, with plus power and a double plus arm.
02:25As a switch hitter, he's had more success against left-handed pitchers in pro ball than he did in college.
02:30In 12 games, he displayed a patient approach, batting, 3-6-6, 6-5-2-7-7, 6-34, with 8 extra base hits and 13 walks, 3.
02:41Alfredo Duno, C, Peoria, Sin No. 2, MLB No. 48.
02:47At just 19 years and 9 months, he was the third youngest player in the league.
02:51His regular season was quiet, hitting only...
02:54Sutter. 2-1-3, 3-5-6 by 2-98 with no home runs in 15 games, but he exploded in the playoffs, hitting 4 home runs in 3 games,
03:05including 3 in the semifinals, with 2 shots traveling 453 and 456 feet.
03:10His right-handed power is immense, and he has the receiving skills and arm strength to be a real asset behind the plate.
03:204. Charlie Condon, 1B, Salt River, C-O-L No. 2, MLB, No. 61.
03:27Condon was hampered by hand and wrist injuries after being drafted third overall in 2024, but he was healthy in the AFL.
03:35He led the league with 28 hits, slashing 3-3-7, 4-39, 4-34, and won the Durnell Stenson Sportsmanship Award.
03:43His hitting ability is real, though he wasn't driving the ball for power, as well as he did in college, when he led NCAA Division Non-1 in homers, 37, and slugging, 1-0-9.
03:565. Hagan Smith, LHP, Glendale, CWS No. 5, MLB, No. 88.
04:02The fifth overall pick in 2024, Smith saw his stuff tick down slightly during his first pro season, as he battled his mechanics.
04:09But in Arizona, he looked more like his dominant self.
04:13His fastball reached 98 map reprie, and he used a sharp slider to wipe out hitters.
04:19He posted a 2.57 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 14 innings, ranking 2nd in ground-out dodge air-out ratio 2.5, and 3rd in strikeout rate, 15.5 per 9 innings.
04:316. Johnny Farmalo, Ove, Peoria, SEA No. 7, MLB No. 75.
04:39Farmalo featured the best combination of power and speed in the AFL.
04:43This resulted in a league-best 3 triples, and he batted, 2-3-4, 4-0-6, 4-42 with 12 steals and 20 walks in 23 games.
04:53However, his 28 strikeouts and 40% swing and miss rate are a concern, though he's very young, and does damage when he makes contact.
05:027. Blake Mitchell, C, Surprise, KC No. 2, MLB No. 62.
05:08Mitchell's batting line was 34-34, 311, but he ranked 2nd with 20 walks and came up big in the playoffs.
05:17His numbers don't fully show his plus power to all fields, and he's an athletic defender with a strong arm.
05:238. Starlin Kaba, SS, Mesa, MIA No. 5.
05:28Kaba was the best infield defender in the fall league and is a future gold-glove shortstop.
05:33As the fourth-youngest player, 19 years, 10 months, he held his own at the plate, slashing 297, 4-4-0-9, 4-4-19,
05:43flashing plus speed, and surprisingly hitting 2 homers, 9, Esmeralda Valdez, OF, Salt River, PIT No. 15.
05:52After hitting 48 homers in his first two years of full-season ball, Valdez led the AFL with 8 home runs,
05:58all in his first 9 games, as well as in slugging and RBIs.
06:0227. He batted.
06:05368.
06:06My-my-my-my-my-3, 8-42, and earned Offensive Player of the Year honors,
06:10showing legitimate plus power and better control of the strike zone.
06:1410. Seaver King, SS, Scottsdale, WSH No. 7.
06:19King is a versatile player who can do a bit of everything.
06:22He hit 3-5-9, 4-68, 5-5-63, with 6 steals in 18 games.
06:29Scouts see him as more of an average shortstop and wonder if he might be better suited for other positions.
06:3511. Anderson Brito, RHP, Scottsdale, HOU No. 7.
06:40Brito had the best stuff among fall league right-handers.
06:43His fastball averaged 98 Mepreus and touched 100, and he paired it with a sharp curveball and sweeper.
06:49He struck out 22 batters in just 11 innings, posting a 3.97 ERA and a 43% swing and miss rate.
06:5712. Luis Deleon, LHP, Peoria, BAL, No. 21.
07:03Hitters struggled against Deleon's slider and sinker.
07:07He posted a 2.76 ERA with 22 strikeouts and a league-best 2.6 ground-out-air-out ratio in 16 innings.
07:15His control can be spotty, but he has the tools to succeed as a starter.
07:2113. Walker Jonak, C. Scottsdale, HOU No. 4.
07:27Some scouts believe Jonak is the best defensive catcher in the minors.
07:31He projects as a solid receiver with a very strong arm.
07:34He also has 20 homer power, though he slashed, .241, .288, .481 in the AFL.
07:4114. Cam Collier, 1B, Peoria, SIN No. 6, MLB No. 94.
07:47Collier's AFL line was tonu 21, .368, .325, but his offensive upside includes 30 homer potential.
07:54He's a limited athlete, who will likely be relegated, to first, base.
07:5815. Max Anderson, 3B, Scottsdale, D.E.T., No. 9.
08:05Anderson posted the best numbers of any hitter leading the league in batting, .447, on-base percentage, .609, OPS, 1.418, and walk rate, .26%.
08:16He controls the strike zone well, though his defensive position is a question.

08:25Adamczewski was one of the AFL's most well-rounded hitters at just 20 years old, batting.

08:53A legendary college slugger, White had a quieter power display, but used a disciplined approach, hitting .292, .395, .44, with the best strikeout rate, 9%, in the league, .19.
09:05Dante Nori, OF, Surprise, PHI No. 6.
09:09Despite a leg injury, Nori displayed his first-round tools, slashing, .88, .386, .436, and showing off well above average speed, .20.
09:19Luis Perales, RHP, Salt River, BOS No. 9.
09:24Perales is still returning from Tommy John's surgery, which showed in his 10.32 ERA and 11 walks,
09:30However, his pure stuff was excellent, including a fastball that averaged .99 Neymar and reached .101, .21.
09:36Sam Antonacci, 2B, Glendale, CWS No. 11.
