00:00How have you seen Hollywood's interest in making those kinds of films change over the course of
00:05your career and what do you think are the forces at play? Well they just overthink it. Vince Vaughn
00:09is getting candid about why the type of R-rated movies he's been known for are no longer being
00:14made. The actor rose to fame in the late 90s and early 2000s with his hard R-rated movies
00:19such as Wedding Crashers, Old School and Swingers. But he recently shared on Hot Ones why he thinks
00:25those films are not being made in this day and age saying movie execs are overthinking it.
00:30It gets crazy. You get these rules. It's like if you did geometry and you said 87 degrees was a
00:36right angle then all your answers are messed up instead of 90 degrees. He noted so there became
00:41some idea or concept like they would say something like you have to have an IP. The star proceeded to
00:46use the board game Battleship as an example saying the IP became a vehicle for storytelling just
00:52because it had a recognizable name. Whereas like an IP like John Hughes from our neck of the woods
00:56right? An IP was a girl's turning 16 like every girl turns 16 or I'm gonna cut school. You know life
01:03situations or old school. What if I got to go back and you know be in a fraternity now at this stage
01:09of the game? He continued they want to kind of follow a set of rules that somehow get set in stone
01:14that don't really translate but as long as they follow them they're not going to lose their jobs
01:18because they can say well look I made a movie off the board game payday so even though the movie
01:22didn't work you can't let me go right? But the actor still has hope for the future and predicted
01:27that audiences would see more films similar to his R-rated comedies again. People want to laugh
01:33people people want to look at stuff that feels a little bit like it's you know dangerous or pushing
01:38the envelope and I think you're going to see more of it in the film space sooner than later would be
01:43my guess. For more on this story head to THR.com and for the latest entertainment news and updates keep
