00:00Never play these emotions for laughs.
00:02You need to feel that these people are really going through these true emotional things at that moment.
00:07I loved writing that.
00:08I'm Just Ken is like nothing we've ever written ever before,
00:11and probably nothing we'll ever write again.
00:14Hi, I'm Mark Bronson, and I'm nominated for Best Song for I'm Just Ken from Barbie.
00:19I keep my one statue, I keep it, I'm very, it's obnoxious.
00:33I keep it on the living room mantle where everybody can see it.
00:36Like I'm sure there's some people who, you know, like more like, it's in the study.
00:41Mine's like, no, it's right there.
00:43I feel like maybe Lady Gaga kept the envelope.
00:51It was fun though because the other night at the Grammys when I read Record of the Year,
00:56I remember walking off stage and being like, wait, I'm still holding this.
00:59I should give it to Miley or, you know, Tom who wrote the song.
01:02So it was kind of like a sweet moment to like hand that to somebody to give an award to your friends.
01:07I haven't prepared anything yet.
01:13I think Andrew's more quiet.
01:15Like he's like the Phineas of the bunch.
01:18But I would love to hear Andrew say something.
01:23Which one's more fun? I mean, they're both amazing.
01:26I mean, the Grammys was so great this year as well,
01:29because of the performances are so amazing.
01:31But I think that, yeah, the Oscars has like a prestige on another level.
01:36I mean, there's this piece of score that we wrote called You Failed Me.
01:45And it's like when Ryan's on top of the Hummer and he's having his big meltdown.
01:49And then it goes all the way through to when Margot kind of like has her thing
01:53and she kicks her shoes off and falls over.
01:56And we're just like so moved by all these performances.
01:59And the whole thing that Greta always wanted us was to like never play these emotions for laughs.
02:04Like you need to feel that these people are really going through these like true emotional things at that moment.
02:08So I loved writing that.
02:10So I really am proud of that.
02:12I'm just kind of like nothing we've ever written ever before and probably nothing we'll ever write again.
02:18And it's a crazy song.
02:24I remember every time that I went into the editing suite when we were working on Barbie,
02:27there were always these giant bags of things to floss your teeth with.
02:31Greta's really fervent about, I guess, flossing and all this stuff.
02:36And I just thought that was just so cool.
02:38And I was like, I need to floss more.
02:40So that would be like a topic of small talk just to turn to John Williams and be like,
02:45what's your flossing kind of schedule?
02:47Ryan.
02:48Yeah, I think he's just so great in the film.
02:51I think, you know, I mean, everybody really, but Ryan's the one that like lifted up this song.
03:02He's the reason that we're sort of there, I feel like.
03:04I mean, other than obviously Greta knows screenplay, which created the entire world of it.
03:08But I really like, of course I'm partial, but I love all the Barbie America.
03:15You know, I found everybody did such good work.
