00:00FBI Trainee Fired Over Pride Flag Files Federal Lawsuit
00:04A long-time FBI employee who was weeks away from completing special agent training
00:09is suing the Bureau after being abruptly fired for displaying a pride flag at his workspace.
00:15According to the Associated Press, a federal lawsuit filed on Wednesday in Washington, D.C.
00:21states that 16-year FBI veteran David Maltinsky was dismissed last month
00:26after officials deemed the flag an inappropriate display of political signage.
00:31Maltinsky, who previously worked as an intelligence specialist in the Los Angeles field office,
00:36had recently been pursuing his lifelong goal of becoming a special agent.
00:40The suit states that Maltinsky received the Progress Pride Flag in 2021
00:45after it was removed from the Los Angeles field office.
00:48The flag includes the traditional rainbow plus a chevron representing LGBTQ plus communities and people of color.
00:54Maltinsky displayed it at his workstation in Los Angeles with his supervisor's permission.
00:59The filing states,
01:01Maltinsky had nearly finished the FBI's 19-week training program when he was abruptly dismissed.
01:06After 16 weeks, he was called into a meeting,
01:08given a dismissal letter signed by Director Cash Patel,
01:11and removed from the program on the spot.
01:13The lawsuit notes that Maltinsky had helped lead diversity initiatives during his FBI career.
01:18It also references President Donald Trump's January executive order
01:23that eliminated all diversity, equity, and inclusion programs across the federal government.
01:29Maltinsky is suing Patel, the FBI, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and the Justice Department,
01:34seeking reinstatement and a ruling that his First and Fifth Amendment rights were violated.
01:39This case is about far more than one man's career.
01:42It's about whether the government can punish Americans simply for saying who they are.
01:46Maltinsky's attorney, Christopher M. Mattei, said in a statement,
01:50calling the firing an unlawful attack.
01:52The FBI and Justice Department offered no comment,
01:55and the lawsuit arrives amid broader internal turmoil,
01:58including claims from three senior officials that they were forced out
02:02in a politically driven campaign of retribution during Donald Trump's second term.
02:06The FBI was taken to the FBI,
02:08which was considered they were forced to manipulate when they were forced to build the war.
02:13The FBI and Justice Department um first to participate in the dialogue.
02:15And the CIA will be on the right,
02:17so I will get to the FBI and the FBI and the FBI.
