00:00Now it's a sit down with Hailey Lou Richardson. Hi Hailey.
00:03Your first book of poetry has arrived. I'm sad and horny.
00:07When did the idea for a book of poetry begin percolating?
00:10It was because someone told me you could turn these poems into a book.
00:14And I had like never had that thought. And I doubt I would ever have had that thought.
00:20And then he was like, what would you call it? And I was like, probably I'm sad and horny.
00:25So once I said that out loud, it like all clicked and started making sense.
00:29And then I just like committed to seeing it through.
00:32Why was poetry your choice of expression?
00:34What did you want to get across that only worked in this format?
00:37My poems in the book is pretty raw and pretty like unrefined, I would say.
00:42But it's like more intentional to be shared publicly than my journaling.
00:50Journaling, like sometimes I'll just like anger journal and I'll just like scribble over
00:54my own sentences over and over and over.
00:56I know when I go like I go through my journal at the end of every year to kind of like
01:00check in with myself.
01:01And sometimes I'm like, whoa, you were nuts back then.
01:04Or I was like, oh, wow, I'm so proud of you for getting through that, Hayley.
01:07But I can always tell like what I'm deeply feeling by how my handwriting looks.
01:15Sometimes it's really unhinged.
01:17But yeah, I mean, maybe there are some people out there who would be interested in seeing my journal, but
01:22I don't know if I'm that brave to share it.
01:25I love that this is a coming of age slash reckoning with turbulent 20s and going into 30s reflection.
01:32What are some things that you left behind in your 20s and some new ones that you want to bring into your decade of 30s?
01:38I love that question because I think that's the key to growth and being more at peace.
01:44So far, I've learned or realized is like it's not about what more can I do or how can I be more to be able to be better?
01:52It's like, what can I let go of?
01:54What can I leave behind?
01:56What can I let not be meant for me?
01:58You know, so I think honestly, like the surrender and acceptance of doing that,
02:05of actually allowing myself to just like say goodbye to things and people that aren't meant for me.
02:10You're starring opposite Emilia Clarke in a new Peacock series, Ponies.
02:14Were you fangirling the entire time? Like, hello, Khaleesi.
02:18I mean, honestly, I, I didn't, I wasn't like a Game of Thrones person.
02:24I loved, I watched the first season. I loved her in that.
02:26She's such an iconic character, but I've seen some other of her movies and I love her.
02:31And I just love how like expressive and earnest she is as a human being and actor.
02:36And so like, really, I, I was fangirling about her, like as a human being, like she is the most
02:42precious, smart, like generous, giving, like powerful, but also like soft human.
02:51I love her. Uh, so yeah. So yeah, it was fangirling, but, um, more about her as a human being.
02:59Okay. We're going to put 10 seconds on the clock. Tell everyone why they need to grab a copy of your book.
03:04I'm sad and horny. Ready, set, go.
03:07If you are sad and horny and you have feelings, you should buy my book.
