They are not celebrities, nor do they seek the limelight, yet their compassion has changed lives in ways that will shape Malaysia for years to come.

These everyday heroes took centre stage at the 11th Star Golden Hearts Award (SGHA), which honoured 10 inspiring individuals and organisations whose often unseen work continues to uplift communities nationwide.

00:12Ten such individuals and organisations were honoured
00:16at the 11th Star Golden Hearts Award, or SGHA,
00:20for their remarkable efforts in uplifting communities nationwide.
00:24This year team, recognising the unsung,
00:28inspiring the next. Reflect this spirit.
00:32Every recipient inspires others
00:36to their compassion, encouraging more people
00:40to care and to act.
00:44As we revealed the stories that emerged from this year's submission,
00:48it became clear that
00:52acts of compassion do not require good gestures.
00:56These stories reveal the enduring strength of our collective humanity.
01:04The ceremony also honoured Tan Sri Lee Lam Thai, with a certificate of appreciation,
01:10recognising his decade-long service as SGHA Chief Judge.
01:14This year's winners are Light Up Borneo,
01:18Rekayu, Tropical Rainforest Conservation and Research Centre,
01:22or TRCRC, Orphan Care Foundation,
01:26Responsible Elephant Conservation Trust or RESPECT,
01:30Johnson Lam, K Balasupramaniam,
01:32Mohamed Nazri Prem Nasir, Chiu Song Kong,
01:36and Adrien Lee Mui Keo.
01:38Of course this award is a very big encouragement for myself,
01:42and to all young Malaysians out there,
01:44you don't need wealth, you don't need status,
01:50you only need a pure heart to make a change.
01:54This award is dedicated to our volunteers,
01:58contributors, supporters,
02:00and especially the Indigenous communities,
02:04the true unsung heroes,
02:06whose resilience and trust make this work possible.
02:11Thank you for believing in the power of light to change lives.
02:16For the first time, SGHA partnered with McDonald's Malaysia
02:21to introduce the McDonald's Caring Hearts Award.
02:24Rekayu was also named the winner of the inaugural
02:27McDonald's Caring Hearts Award
02:29for empowering underprivileged youths and former offenders
02:33through carpentry skills and upcycled wood creations.
02:37I'm so honoured with this inaugural McDonald's Caring Hearts Award 2025,
02:44and this is dedicated to Rekayu teams,
02:48and also to the supporters, and then to the volunteers,
02:52and whoever is actually behind the scenes
02:55will already put an effort to make this happen.
03:00McDonald's Malaysia Corporate Communications Director, Shamsidar Yahya,
03:05said each winner demonstrated clarity of purpose
03:08and a deep understanding of the communities they serve.
03:12The winners have great effort above and beyond effort that they put in,
03:19and the winners are resilient, relentless, all the way to help the community.
03:28The award ceremony was livened up by Zimije,
03:31a neurodivergent rock band composed of musicians with autism,
03:36taught by SGHA 2022 winner Edwin Nathaniel.
03:42The energised crowd joined in to sing along the songs,
03:45such as Stand By Me, Gemuru, and Standing in the Eyes of the World, performed by the band.
