Charlotte Charles, the mother of a teenage motorcyclist killed by a US citizen who was able to leave the UK under diplomatic immunity laws, was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her work campaigning for road safety following her son’s death.Harry was killed when a Volvo driven by then-US state department employee Anne Sacoolas hit him while on the wrong side of the road outside RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire.Sacoolas had diplomatic immunity asserted on her behalf following the crash and she was able to leave the country 19 days later.

00:37But we've come a long way and we've achieved a lot.
00:39Not only have we had the law changed so that what happened, our circumstances surrounding
00:44Harry's death can't happen again.
00:47And there's greater accountability within the police force and within the ambulance
00:52service as well.
00:53They all recognised through meetings that we had with them that errors were made.
00:59Some fundamental things that should have been done in the early days weren't done.
01:05So greater accountability within those forces and within those teams as well has been incredible.
01:11And I thank them all for being so candid with us.
