Wes Anderson retrospective set to go on show in London

A comprehensive look at the films of Wes Anderson is set to open at London’s Design Museum, with more than 700 items on show, offering a glimpse of the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s colorful world over 13 films. “It’s like going into Wes Anderson’s mind,” says Ab Rogers, a designer at Wes Anderson: The Archives. “Inside his mind lives these different worlds.” The exhibition opens on November 21 before closing in July 2026.

00:00Oh
00:30The whole thing.
00:54Anyway, nice to see you.
00:56See you too.
01:00So we see each one of these films as a world.
01:03It's like going into Wes Anderson's mind,
01:05and inside his mind lives these different worlds,
01:08and these different worlds tell us different stories
01:10through different films.
01:12So we create 13 different spaces.
01:15I wouldn't say rooms, because they're more open.
01:18And we try to make these spaces porous
01:20so we can look ahead to the next film,
01:22or the two films forward,
01:24and we can look behind at the films that have gone.
01:27So we're never in where the universes are leaking
01:30and overlapping from each other.
01:32Fans of Wes Anderson films will really be delighted
01:35when they can come close to many of the familiar objects for them
01:39they've seen in the films.
01:40But when you watch a film, sometimes some of these objects,
01:44they're seen on camera for a few seconds,
01:47while here you almost have the opportunity to pose the film
01:51and to come closer to some of these wonderful paintings,
01:55costume, textiles,
01:57and what it was really something new
02:00that you probably cannot see in films,
02:02and what goes on behind the scenes.
02:04But really, in the end, he's been very involved,
02:09because no one knows the films better than he does.
02:14So, you know, when we ask him a question about something,
02:18the answer raises so many other new ideas
02:21that the curators might not have thought of
02:23or that a detail that I didn't know
02:25from even working on the film.
02:27So, you know, it's been, I think, to everybody's benefit
02:31that he's been so willing and open to interact
02:35and collaborate on developing this
02:37while he's also making films still, you know.
02:40I don't know.
03:10and the start of all,
03:12I don't know yet.
03:13and to answer them in movies.
03:18A question but,
03:20let me explain why.
03:21To how
