00:00So, daripada situ, I try macam, kata doktor kan, so doktor macam, oh you have to have this, you have to have-have macam tu.
00:08So, because of that, I wasn't happy.
00:22Hello everyone, welcome to another episode of Motif Trending,
00:54Selamat datang, okey, so this, what number of baju are you guys wearing right now? The first or the seventh or what?
01:01Tak ada number.
01:02Tak ada number.
01:02It is indeed within the seventh.
01:04Okey, this is within the seventh punya baju.
01:21Minimalis is a konsep, it's a lifestyle. It's not really a trend. It's more towards living with enough.
01:31Hidup dengan cukup.
01:32Okey.
01:32Cukup tu bagi saya mungkin berbeza dengan Sean.
01:36Okey.
01:36So, my level of enough might be different than you.
01:40So, basically, minimalis dekat sini is living with less, living dengan cukup-cukup dengan apa yang ada.
01:46Okey, betul-betul.
01:47Jadi, kira macam less is more and hidup dengan you perlukan keperluan you sahaja.
01:52You sahaja.
01:53Live frugally but not cheaply.
01:56Frugal people ni adalah orang yang care pasal value of an item that's worth their money.
02:18Because you guys are doctors. Both of you are doctors.
02:21Ya, tell us more about yourself.
02:24Background, becoming doctor sejak daripada 2013.
02:30Okey.
02:30After I graduated, terus dipanggil untuk masuk tugas.
02:33At that time, doctor tak ada sistem kontrak lagi lah.
02:37Okey.
02:37And then, went to Sandakan for three years.
02:42And then, come back to Selangor.
02:44And then, was stationed at the hospital Banting.
02:47Okey.
02:47And then, in Banting, and then I resigned in 2022.
02:53And then, I started my own practice.
02:55Up until now lah.
02:57Okey, so you run your own clinic right now.
02:59Okey.
03:00Mira, you also working with Aiman in this clinic?
03:02No, I have my own clinic.
03:04Oh, okey.
03:05So, he has his own.
03:07I have my own lah.
03:09So, he's one dekat Serenia.
03:13My one is area KLIA.
03:15Okey.
03:15Somewhere like that, ya.
03:16Okey.
03:16Tapi, the journey itself almost sama.
03:192013, pergi Sandakan, balik Banting, resign, join private practice.
03:24Right, right, right.
03:35So, korang dah kahwin berapa lama?
03:37Kemudian dah kongsi dengan kita.
03:39Boleh.
03:39Coba to take a guess.
03:40Take a guess lah.
03:44Maybe, oh.
03:45Four years.
03:47Four years.
03:47Plus seven.
03:48Four plus seven?
03:49Hmm.
03:50Eleven years?
03:51Yes.
03:51So, when you guys, bila korang buat klinik masing-masing tu, korang dah kahwin tak actually?
03:56Dah.
04:03Basically, started with her clinic first.
04:05Okay.
04:05Tak dengarkan klinik dia dululah.
04:07After that, okay sikit and then, I meet and my friends and other doctors.
04:11Macam, we saw and ada opportunity.
04:13That's why I buka nak ada warna.
04:14Okay.
04:14And then, bila saya dah buka klinik, dia dah buka klinik.
04:17Bila klinik dah start 23 jam, kat situ jadi turning point.
04:22So, siang, saya kerja dia klinik saja.
04:25Dia kerja klinik dia.
04:26So, malam, saya cover.
04:28Over night.
04:2811 malam sampai 7 pagi lah.
04:31And then, the next day, saya pergi klinik saya balik.
04:33Oh my god.
04:36So, rumah tu memang bukan rumah lah dah.
04:38What's the point of the room?
04:40Rumah yang rent tu hanya duduk hari Sabtu.
04:43Sabtu.
04:45Yes.
04:45Okay, okay.
04:46So, Sabtu.
04:46That's why macam, I think then-then kena ikat kontrak juga rumah tu kan.
04:50So, macam, membazir sikit lah in our definition macam,
04:55dalam bayar, mahal.
04:57Lepas tu, duduk pula seminggu sekali yang macam.
04:59Lepas tu, nak jumpa pula, susah.
05:01Kita ada satu kereta je by the way.
05:03Faham.
05:04Okay, okay.
05:05So, saya jual kereta saya, and then, ada kereta Mia je lah.
05:09I think start awal tahun ni, baru kita orang start duduk dalam bilik tu.
05:13While waiting untuk atas tu, nak acap balik lah.
05:17Right, right.
05:17To bikin boleh kebaikan.
05:18Ya, betul.
05:20Physically, while being there, you feel like space tu cukup je lah actually.
05:24Yeah, I think 3 feet time in space team.
05:263 darab 15.
05:28Tapi, okay.
05:30I mean, dia satu peluang lah untuk jadi lebih rapat dengan you, right?
05:35Dengan partner you.
05:36Kadang-kadang pun tengok juga.
05:37Kadang-kadang pun tengok juga.
05:39Kadang-kadang tengok juga kan, okay.
05:40Okay, baik.
05:41Sekarang kita kenal lah korang punya background sikit pasal doktor,
05:44perjalanan doktor korang.
05:46Aku nak tahu, macam mana korang terjebak dengan filosofi minimalism ni.
05:51Tahun berapa yang korang discover this?
05:54Or was it Amira yang discover dulu lah?
05:55Aiman yang discover dulu?
05:57Mungkin boleh share dengan kita.
05:58So, I started 2017.
06:01Basically, before that lagi, I dah start declutter my barang.
06:04Back was, back when I was in Sandakan.
06:07Okay.
06:07So, time to preparation untuk balik ke Semenanjung lah.
06:11So, dari situ memang ada boxes and boxes of books and baju and banyak.
06:19So, imagine nak bawa daripada Sandakan tu Semenanjung.
06:22The cost lagi apa semua.
06:24So, I start from there, start declutter dulu.
06:26Okay.
06:27Start to let go of my personal belongings and everything lah.
06:31Tapi, back sampai 2017, I start to fully embrace this lifestyle lah.
06:39Basically, because of maybe I need more of mental clarity and inner peace kot.
06:46Lebih kurang macam tu.
06:47Sebab dulu, I have this some sort of macam low self-esteem sikit.
06:53Low self-esteem and many insecurities jugalah.
06:57So, daripada situ, I try macam, kata doktor kan.
07:00So, macam doktor macam, oh, you have to have this.
07:03You have to have-have macam tu.
07:05So, because of that, I wasn't happy.
07:10So, memang macam tak happy lah hidup, apa orang kata, keeping up with other people.
07:15Yeah.
07:16Lebih kurang macam tu.
07:16You're always keeping up the latest trends or the, yeah.
07:19Yeah.
07:19So, macam keeping up with other people, try to, apa orang kata, consumer rat race.
07:25Try to, you know, be more, do more, buy more, things like that.
07:30And then, lepas tu, yeah, starting 2017, I found this concept.
07:35And, sampai lah sekarang.
07:37So, bila Amira, you discover minimalist ni, was it you who introduced it to Aiman or?
07:43I think by example kot kan.
07:45She did, dia ada kongsi lah pasal minimalist ni, macam, oh, okay, menarik.
07:51And then, bila I tengok balik, macam, most of it, memang dah buat pun.
07:55Cuma, maybe, saya jenis purang sikit beli barang.
07:58Tapi, bila beli barang tu, contoh, kalau barang tu dah rosak ke apa kan, macam item tu pegang.
08:04Okay, you hold it lah.
08:05It's very hard for you to let go of that thing.
08:06Tapi, maybe, tak masuk kategori holder sebab tak banyak.
08:09Okay, okay, okay, okay.
08:11So, where did you discover this philosophy of minimalism for you?
08:34Saya, two place, satu from book, it's by Fumio Sasaki, Good By Things.
08:43That one is my, memang, legend punya book lah tu.
08:45And, the another one is from YouTube lah.
08:48Because, Mak Saleh and all these people, foreign people, they're more towards this frugal lifestyle,
08:54this minimalism concept, Japanese especially.
08:57So, from there, we incorporate in our life lah.
09:01Right.
09:01So, but I baru nak, nak cakap and make that connection because, like, minimalism is very big in Japan.
09:07Yeah.
09:08For obvious reasons, obviously, sebab kekangan ruang diorang.
09:12So, that's why diorang terpaksa macam tu.
09:13Dia duduk macam tu.
09:14My minimalist kitchen set up in the pantry of my clinic.
09:21No mix fits my living situation.
09:23Awal-awal memang mahal.
09:29So, yeah. So, berapa lama dah korang dah hidup dan mengamalkan hidup minimalism ni?
09:35I think 8 years lah.
09:3627 years.
09:37Cuma maybe started dengan minimalism.
09:40Cuma after, I think around 2023 macam tu, we started frugal sikit lah.
09:45Frugal sikit lah.
09:45Okay.
09:45So, minimalism plus frugal.
09:49Okay.
09:50You become a minimalist and you'll be a bit more frugal in terms of your spending.
09:55Boleh tak kongsi sikit pasal filosofi tu yang korang tengah pegang right now?
10:00This minimalism and frugalism, right?
10:02Like, kenapa korang rasa benda ni penting dalam hidup sekarang?
10:05Macam mana dia ubah hidup korang?
10:07You know, dari dulu sampai sekarang, right?
10:09The difference that you guys have.
10:10I think we can have anything, but we cannot have everything.
10:19So, macam you boleh buat, you mampu, tapi doesn't mean that you should.
10:25Faham ke?
10:25Betul.
10:26Memang you find exit kalau you have certain salary, you boleh je nak beli semua ni, semua ni.
10:31Tapi, that's it necessary, perlukah?
10:33Kenapa you nak beli benda tu?
10:34Perlukah?
10:35So, basically, you become more mindful lah towards what your purchases.
10:40Beli apa tu, basically, it's your money.
10:41I know, it's too hard for you.
10:43Tapi, kenapa?
10:45Perlu ke, tak perlu ke?
10:47And then, at the same time as kita orang ada, macam,
10:50because 2023 is a masa kita orang baru nak buka klinik.
10:53So, money is very scar.
10:55Right.
10:55So, it's a good opportunity to practice this philosophy as well.
10:59Basically, macam, eh, kebetulan, jom lah.
11:02Alang-alang.
11:03Things I would tell you about frugal living if I wasn't afraid to hurt your feelings.
11:08Number one, people will judge you.
11:12Number two, you have to be able to be happy with where you're at.
11:18It's okay to be a frugal weirdo.
11:20I'm right here too.
11:22Okay.
11:22So, in this eight years journey, apakah perkara yang paling indah bila kita hidup secara minimalis?
11:31Jawab dengan jawab.
11:32Jawab dengan jawab.
11:33Jawab dengan jawab lah.
11:35Ya, boleh.
11:37Paling indah, eh.
11:39I think it's more towards your internal well-being.
11:45Okay.
11:45I think it's, it's, it's, it's, it's paling mahal kot.
11:48I think susah nak, nak dapat benda tu.
11:50I mean, physical space, ya, kita boleh minimize, kita boleh barang sikit, apa semua.
11:55Tapi, after you do that, after you reach that stage, you rasa macam the contentment is really there.
12:04You rasa memang nak shopping tu memang serious tak macam dululah.
12:09Memang tak, tak rasa nak shopping dah.
12:11Tak rasa macam nak beli barang tu, ini kira macam tak FOMO.
12:15Right.
12:16The internal well-being tu, I think is the most, apa orang kata, most expensive lah for me untuk dapat benda tu.
12:22Okay, okay.
12:29Okay.
12:30Technical.
12:30As all men should be.
12:32Yeah.
12:32More technical, ya.
12:33And logical.
12:33Yeah, yeah.
12:34I think senang.
12:37Contoh macam nak kena balik kampung, let's say.
12:40Okay.
12:40I'm from Kelantan.
12:41So, bila nak balik ke Kelantan, okay, eh, kena balik lah.
12:43Then jump pack.
12:44Bila nak pack, it's very quick.
12:46Just because she organized, very organized.
12:49So, main baju in one.
12:51Packing cube.
12:52Packing cube.
12:53Her baju memang ke big cube.
12:54So, we grab, grab, grab, grab.
12:55Within less 30 minutes, dia boleh gerak.
12:58That's for travel.
12:59And then, we like to hike.
13:05So, I think.
13:06Tak guna portal.
13:07Tak guna portal.
13:08Wow.
13:09And then, bila cek naik kapal terbang, tak payah luggage.
13:13So, everything just cabin.
13:15Yeah, man.
13:16That's really like saving and it's like.
13:19So, if we become minimalist and you focus on minimalist, automatically you can become frugal.
13:24Yeah.
13:24Just because you have less things already.
13:26Betul.
13:26And you tak pening pun pasal benda macam ni.
13:28Betul.
13:30Tapi tak bermaksud kita kedekut.
13:31Doesn't mean we achieve.
13:33Okay.
13:33So, while you live in this minimalism and frugalism, how do you also become generous with your friends and family?
13:41Especially with your money.
13:43Mungkin boleh share dengan kita.
13:44I think ramai orang, I think dekat luar sana yang confused sikit between being frugal and being cheap.
13:52Yeah.
13:53So, these two words are completely different.
13:57So, for us, we are frugal but we're not cheap.
14:00So, contoh yang basically kita orang tak cheap, basically we spend, we spend, tapi we spend on experiences instead of things.
14:10So, kalau macam birthday family members, birthday staff, kita orang recently baru buat, apa orang kata, family day dengan staff,
14:19dekat jadah baik.
14:20So, we spend money on that as compared to material staff lah.
14:24So, yeah.
14:26So, itulah aku.
14:27Okay, okay.
14:33I mean, because you took time for yourself to also slowly start from decluttering.
14:38Tapi masa tu, awal-awal mesti dia rasa susah sebab macam I, I ada banyak barang yang dari masa I muda, masa I kecil.
14:47Sebab tu sangat sensitivitas.
14:48Sekarang muda ni?
14:49I mean, I'm 31 this year.
14:51Oh, I feel older.
14:54But, my point is, Sean masih ada lagi barang-barang yang dari dulu, dari sekolah, sebab tu macam kenangan, right?
15:01Or like our momento or whatever.
15:05Mesti susah untuk you let go that part of your life because it's also kind of, yeah, it's like a momento, you know, something that brought you to where you are today.
15:15Like, susah tak nak lalu fasa tu?
15:17Kalau for me, what I practice daripada buku That Goodbye Things, the memories is always here.
15:27The memories dah memang, apa orang kata, embedded dalam kita punya mind.
15:31So, we don't necessarily have to have that thing to trigger that memories.
15:36So, for example, kalau macam Mia sendiri, all my late mother's punya barang, her postcards and everything, I scan them, scan them and I put inside my Google Drive.
15:51Lepas tu kalau, for example, contohlah kalau I ada that physical stuff, that physical stuff dalam kotak je, dalam somewhere inside my house lah, for example.
16:00But if I have that memories, that soft copy of that thing with me, so bila-bila mana I nak teringat kat my mom, I terus tengok.
16:08I tak payah lah nak pergi lagi dekat physical kotak tu, which is, dah berhabuk, dah, dah, dah, don't know where I put, so it's always near me.
16:18So, what I'm going to say is that the memories is always here. So, you just need something to trigger that memories so that you, you know, go back to that memories and relive it lah.
16:32I think dalam kes kita orang, dia jumpa dulu, dia jumpa dulu and then dia share. Somehow maybe nasib baik sikit, so macam, oh, kenalah dengan jiwa sahaja masa tu.
16:43Jadi, barang pun tak banyak, tapi susah nak beli barang sikit. So, I think that's one, satu lah, satu faktor jugalah.
16:59So, dia buat barang-barang dia, so saya nampak beza lah sebelum dan saya lepas.
17:09So, bila kurang barang tu, habuk kurang berkumpul sikit.
17:16Yang kedua, bila mata tu tengok, macam, tak banyak barang.
17:19Ya, ya, tak sakit mata lah.
17:21Tak sakit mata.
17:22And then, after that, I think between us, senang sikit lah.
17:28Tapi maybe bila orang lain yang tanya tu, macam, takes time jugalah.
17:33Macam, oh, ya ke? Eh, betul ke?
17:35Tapi bila dah lama-lama, dia orang ni memang macam ni macam tu.
17:38So, dia macam, okey lah.
17:39I think that's for, I think ramai yang tanya, actually, kalau ada anak.
17:45Ya.
17:45Ya.
17:46So, kalau ada anak, macam mana?
17:47Korang akan ajar dia pun konsep yang sama.
17:51Because your household gonna be like this anyways, right?
17:53Untuk bila dia lebih besar.
17:55In our case, we are not child free.
17:58We are childless lah, basically.
18:00So, child free kan is memang orang yang tak nak ada anak.
18:02But in our case, memang belum lagi dikuniakan rezeki.
18:07So, tapi kalau, insyaAllah, one day kalau dikuniakan rezeki,
18:11we are planned to move out.
18:14Memang definitely, we need to move out from that 45 square foot room.
18:18Tapi still, living that minimalist lifestyle lah, definitely, definitely.
18:24Because, like I mentioned, it's a practice.
18:28It's a lifestyle.
18:29It's not like a one-time thing.
18:31Just a face macam tu.
18:33It's more like a lifestyle lah.
18:35Awesome.
18:54untuk memulakan gaya hidup minimalis?
18:57This is your chance to maybe share with the next on camera.
19:00Okay.
19:01For example, living with more,
19:03hidup dengan lebih,
19:06tak sesuai dengan you,
19:08mungkin you boleh cut back and try to live
19:10at the other end of the spectrum.
19:13So, mungkin living with hidup dengan cukup,
19:16hidup dengan kurang,
19:19might work for you.
19:21Like what it did to me lah.
19:23So, macam Mia nak semua orang tahu juga,
19:28there's nothing wrong with consumption.
19:30What matters is that you are being mindful
19:34and intentional with everything that you do.
19:37Thank you guys so much.
19:38I mean, you want to top up with anything?
19:40Oh, is that good enough?
19:40Cukup, cukup, cukup.
19:42Minimalis.
19:43Minimalis.
19:45Alright, thank you guys.
19:48Thank you so much.
19:49And now, back to the studio.
