00:00The president is deeply committed in developing the nation's athletes to keep them at par with the world's best.
00:06Today, he led the unveiling of the newly made-over sports facility in Pasig City
00:10that will motivate athletes to train harder and perform better on the world stage.
00:15In this report.
00:18With the goal of further strengthening Filipino athletes,
00:21the Phil Sports Complex in Pasig City has been given a new look.
00:25From a new gym equipped with state-of-the-art equipment
00:27to a fully renovated dormitory for better living conditions for athletes.
00:31The facility is now a far cry from its previous condition, which had deteriorated over time.
00:37After six years since its last major rehabilitation,
00:40the complex has now reopened, led by President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr.
00:45He was joined by First Lady Elisa Marcus and Presidential Son and Sports Ambassador Vinny Marcus.
00:51The president emphasized the importance of strengthening sports in the country
00:55and providing athletes with what they need, especially since they bring honor to the nation.
01:00Not only the glory it brings to our country, the pride it brings to every Filipino.
01:07Look what Mani Pacquiao did for us.
01:10Look what our gold medal is.
01:11Hidlin and Kaloy.
01:15Look what they did for us.
01:17For even just a few days, we were in the top of the world.
01:20And that's so important.
01:23And it also brings the country together.
01:46And the same thing with you, Hidlin, ganun din.
01:49Lahat natigil habang pinapanood ka namin.
01:52The same thing with Kaloy.
01:53Aside from the support athletes receive from their families or organizations,
01:57the president pointed out that the government should also play a role in their development.
02:01Our athletes really should be supported.
02:04I know, I have an idea about the sacrifices that our athletes make.
02:10And the government has to be part of your support group.
02:14I know your support group now is your, yung mga magulang ninyo,
02:18yung coach ninyo, yung trainer, yung nutritionist ninyo,
02:24pati hanggang sa driver, yung nagdadrive sa inyo para makapag-train.
02:28Yung ganun na, but we know the sacrifice.
02:31That's why government, if we truly consider this important,
02:35government has to play its part.
02:36We cannot depend on the informal support group that most athletes get.
02:45He also highlighted the importance of sports and instilling discipline among the youth,
02:49which is why he stressed the need to reintroduce sports programs in schools with the help of DepEd.
02:54The president promised that the government will continue to stand beside every Filipino athlete.
02:59We are here, the government is here, we are working to make sure that you have all that you need
03:06para maging maganda naman, maging matagumpay, ang inyong mga maging competition kahit saan man kayo pumunta.
03:14For Olympic gold medalist Haydalen Diaz,
03:16the improvements made to the Phil Sports Complex are a huge boost for athletes.
03:21She said the upgrades helped lift the morale of Filipino competitors.
03:24So ito yung mga kailangan talaga naming mga atleta and we're thankful that the government helps us to
03:31and our president, BBBM, help us to build this as a super state.
03:59Among the new facilities in the Phil Sports Complex is the Sports Museum,
04:03where memorabilia of Filipino athletes who made history in the world of sports are featured.
04:08The project is part of the mandate of the Philippine Sports Commission
04:11to establish, develop, and maintain complete sports facilities
04:15and centers in strategic locations to advance sports development in the country
04:19and to promote healthy communities and sports tourism.
04:22This is Sharm Zespina from the National TV Network for a new and better Philippines.
