DOST: There are no scholarship cuts  Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. clarifies that there are no cuts to the agency’s scholarship program. Speaking at the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week 2025 in Laoag City on Nov. 19, 2025, Solidum told The Manila Times that there were no 'scholarship cuts' because there were no reductions in the budget. He added that universities were assigned a specific number of scholarship slots funded by DOST. The statement comes after AGHAM Diliman, a science students-based organization, called on DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI) after claiming that more than 70 master's and PhD students have been affected by the agency’s scholarship cut at the University of the Philippines Diliman. 00:25and mayroon pa silang mga fears over their scholarship regarding what they call yung scholarship cuts.

00:32So, how can we inspire the next generation of scientists if mayroon ba itong mga issues po on ground?

00:37And can we adjust? Ano po yung sources po itong scholarship cuts?

00:41Okay, let me correct the statement na may scholarship cut.

00:45Walang scholarship cut.

00:48Ang nangyari was, maraming gusto maging scholar nandito.

00:55So, ang dating, hindi lahat mapapapagunlangan.

01:11Pero walang scholarship cut.

01:13Kasi hindi naman binawasan yung budget.

01:15Hindi lang nadagdagad.

01:16So, we have to manage the expectation.

01:22And we are actually requesting that universities have been assigned certain number of slats to be funded by the USD.

01:33If they actually have more students that they have accepted,

01:38itina namin kayang magustusan yun kasi ito lang yung slat.

01:41But the number that we are funding for scholarship this year and last year, parabola.

01:48So, yung issue sa QP or not engineering, no?

01:52Mga other sciences.

01:54Was, they actually had more students in rolling.

01:59So, sir, that means po, kasi there were also issues about na yung mga current scholars po,

02:06parang sabi po nung ibang mga groups po, na ira-rank daw po sila based dun sa performance nila.

03:47like in the US where I went,

03:52but if kailangan silang may funding,

03:54sakukuni nilang scholar.

03:56Or the scholar itself could fund it.
