DOST holds National Science and Technology Week

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) kicks off its annual National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (NSTW) 2025 at Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, on Nov. 18, 2025 with a focus on inspiring the next generation of scientists. The opening of NSTW, the ‘Jungle Trails to City Tales,’ gathered students across the city to ensure that science research could be comprehended—especially by kids—through various activities. Dr. Bernardo Sepeda, DOST-National Research Council of the Philippines executive director, told The Manila Times the importance of reaching out to children across the country to spark their interest in science at an early age. NSTW aims to raise awareness and showcase research, technologies, and services that address societal issues.

00:16and they recommended yung mga schools na to.
00:28Last year, galing tayo sa Mindanao. This year, nandito tayo sa North Tucson.
00:34Next year, babalik tayo ng Mindanao.
00:42At ayun yung naging route natin, katulong yung regional office.
00:47Remember, in DOST, we have what we call 1DOST,
00:51where we help each other, we support each other, we ask each other
00:55for yung mga ganito technical assistance.
00:59And not only that, it's also a testament to how science should be.
01:05Science is collaborative. Science is inclusive.
01:12That's how science works.
01:14In the field of science, we need to work together.
01:18Hindi pwedeng sabihin ng isa, mas maganda itong ginagawa ko over you.
01:22In DOST, we share our findings to everybody.
01:27Pero, sir, how are we making sure na sustainable po ito,
01:31na we keep the interest alive for the kids po?
01:33Maganda tanong yan.
01:38Ginagawa namin ito throughout the year.
01:41So, meron kaming ongoing pinatawag namin expert to class.
01:46Meron kaming magandang bukas mula sa pag-to class.
01:50Meron kaming iShare.
01:51These are activities where we go from one region to another during the off season ng NSTW.
01:58At this year nga, siguro, nakaikot kami ng around 8 regions.
02:21They were very appreciative kasi first time na merong nakikwento tungkol sa tarantula
02:27sa mga batang may special needs.
02:29And that's what we do.
02:31So, para sustain ba yung entusiasam?
02:33Alam mo yun?
02:34Kasi gusto nga natin, bata pa lang sila.
02:37Magkaroon na silang incarcerated scientist.
